I mean, Hollywood has always been a business. It circumstantially aligned with authors and cultural expression when it was on the ropes but at it´s core it´s always been about producing high selling slop based on market research.

As for the general population it is patently obvious that society has evolved in the direction of consumerism and instant gratification. Add the isolation factor of social media to this mix and off course the results will be... less than ideal.

All that said, and maybe i´m being optimistic here, i believe good movies are still being made... even if they are ignored by a society that can only speak of box offices. The reasoning is simple, it´s never been easier to make movies. These days a decent film making camera can be bought for 1200 to 3000 bucks, editing tools can be bought for 300 and CGI tools are free, plus, even distribution is a few clicks away and, in some cases, even capitalization through crowd founding, patreons and the like. None of this existed 30 years ago.

So, following that logic and believing people still want to make movies, i believe good movies are still being made. Author movies, independent movies, REAL movies. So no, culture is not dead nor dying. It´s just being obscured because the big guys own advertising and most of the venues that were traditionally used by artists to expose their work, not to mention every streaming platform.

The solution is also simple, organization.
