This had amazing potential, but it fell flat after only a few episodes. It showcased whites being an irredeemably evil race and blacks being nothing but an oppressed minority, having half the story revolve around a "genius negro" doctor that wasn't based on any historical person, and otherwise pudding anything liberal on a pedestal as the paragon of virtue. Anything considered conservative or traditional was outright labelled as outdated or dysfunctional for absolutely no reason other than it being inherently evil.

What an absolute waste.

There were no chuds in 1900. You can't really apply modern political sensibilities (not that yours are sensible) to a period piece. You can pretend that interracial sex NEVER happened because "there'd a-be a lynchin'!", but it's simply not true.
The black surgeon is berated and blocked and shit on by everyone including Thack for a long time. It doesn't sugarcoat the treatment they got.

Do you want it to be approved of and endorsed? Do you really want some show to be "pro-racism"?
