You're supposed to SEE the plays. Most of Shakespeare is a script. Reading it is only 1/4 of the real experience. You need >good actors >good ambiance >a good buzz

it's really not. It's an interesting idea to do it with modern settings, costume etc but keep the original dialogue, but it just doesn't land. At this point in time it's most famous for having young Leo

This movie is riddled with flaws but I don't care.
It's perfectly high brow and low brow at the same time which is an achievement by itself.

This movie didnt inspire as many school shootings as NBK but it inspired one and did it first which in my opinion is sort of impressive
i think about this movie very often and continuously. any time i see any actor from this movie, even if it's leo who has been in tons of stuff since, i associate them in my mind with their perfomance in this. >>215227272 >a little too camp
it's all completely intentional and only achievable natty in the 90s. we wil never get this organic, unironic camp kino ever again

Shakespeare's works are full of puns actually a lot of them are lost on the modern audience because the way the words are pronounced changed during the great vowel shift

Before Columbine? It wasn't allowed to be shown in my English classes. Instead we watched Schlinder's List, Death of a (((Salesman and Cry the Beloved Country. I went to sleep on my see-through Eastpak during two of those. They also brought in bomb sniffing canines on random days so the black kid kept Slim Jims in his pencil pocket so they couldn't accuse him of smoking weed in the parking lot.

its only for individuals who want to experience the english language at its peak. Its not meant to be read, its meant to be experienced in performance. Read hamlet in school, thought it was dull same with othello, say both in a play and are remarkable stories
The shot where the camera zooms in on the gun to show the word "Sword" written on the side as an explanation of why they keep talking about swordfights gets me every time

Very clever. This could all be prevented if they made it mandatory for the messenger to wait and contact the person. How much money could it cost to have a person wait outside till they talk to someone.

It was years after so that it wasnt a concern. The parents and staff would have been more upset we weren't quietly doing the word jumble. If you ever did the word jumble, know that they stole your time and were paid for it.

I also watched it in English class in 2010. It seemed to be far away from Columbine where no one cared or complained, but I wonder if they still kept showing it after Sandy Hook.
