Sexless adult males already start to struggle with mental health and addiction by 30. Meanwhile this guy has fun at work, friends he regularly hangs out with, an outgoing personality, a comfy apartment to himself, etc. His biggest problem is that he's just a bit lonely sometimes, and works a dead end retail job (which he doesn't even hate). Surely that's not an accurate portrayal of a 40 year old man who has never even kissed a woman in this life.

The movie is mean-spirited and has a bloated runtime a la Apatow.
Pretty much any other comedy released the same year completely mogs it in rewatch value.

You really can't expect anything more. Normal people, like the kind who write and direct Hollywood movies, are cognitively incapable of even conceiving of how a person could remain a virgin past the age of 18. That is why the movie is built around memes like "um, he's a virgin because... he plays video games and, um... he owns old toys or something lol." I'm surprised they didn't have the character live in a basement.
