Skinamarink found a unique gimmick that no one else had exploited. Do that and you'll get noticed, but unless you can cook up another gimmick you'll get forgotten quick. Best you can do is write a really killer script. Budget on Primer was only $7k, but everybody was captivated by the writing. Been checking out this so called /hor/ general, people tell me it’s about horror movies. Frankly, very boring stuff! They talk about the SAME 80s movies every single day, Evil Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, all terrible, all aged like milk. Total audio-visual disasters. Nobody’s talking about anything NEW, very sad!

And there’s this one guy, always posting Suspiria and that, let's be honest here, very ugly woman, he posts her over and over again. I think they call him Harperfag. Folks, we get it. It’s colorful. It’s Italian. YAWN! The general would be doing much better numbers if he took a permanent vacation.

he tries really damn hard to kill the main kids psychic sister, and they give him Freddy powers to where what he does to her in dreams happens irl, but they just keep thwarting him until the end without him getting anybody. At one point he nearly throws her in a furnace and she's floating in the air in front of it, but they just yank her away from him. They make the crazy decision that they can physically hurt him as well, so when they beat him it's by literally cutting his foot off and bashing his face into the surface of a frozen lake before he gets dragged down by ghosts. They also steal the idea from Freddy that his power comes from kids' fear, so that's he has to lure them back to his old summer camp where the bodies/ghosts of the first kids he ever killed are.

Watched 3 movies. So here's my pointless brief thoughts on them:

>Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night
It's not good and has a lot of boring parts. It is connected to the series, but as an alternative version of things. The worst part is that it's a Japanese movie trying to do what American movies did, and fails horribly. It just doesn't work and should have gone full Jap on it like other Japanese FF movies do. Skip it unless you're a completionist.
>House On Eden
Below average movie. It's very predictable, the fat girl is hard to look at, and the 3 of them are annoying at times. It has some moments, but doesn't do anything you haven't seen done better in dozens of these types of movies.
>Mieruko-chan
I enjoyed this supernatural comedy-horror. The lead girls are cute, acting isn't bad, and it has comfy HS girl stuff that I like. It's not a serious horror movie, so avoid if that's what you're looking for.

I basically like two kinds of horror films. The first one I would describe as dreamlike, surreal and slightly melancholic, something like Suspiria and other Argento stuff. The second one is body-horror, because I find this shit scary and disturbing, like The Thing or The Fly. This movie has both. The atmosphere is often slow and eerie, but the body horror scenes are unnerving and disgusting. Also Sono is batshit crazy and uses weird plot elements, so the story is not as formulatic as usual and all the dark parts are balanced with dark humor and central relationship between characters. In Harperian terms I could describe it as somewhat similar to Phantom of the Paradise.
Anonymous No.215299343 >>215300319

It's underrated Sono, probably because the premise is so wacky. Between Suicide Club, Exte, and Antiporno, I've got 3 Sonos in my favorite 500 movies.

I saw this in theaters and I think it's the only real way it can be effective. I also don't know how effective it would be on a rewatch. But I loved it and it's one of the only movies that's really gotten under my skin. When I was a kid, all of my nightmares were pretty much exactly like Skinamarink - dark, grainy, distorted, not being able to trust my parents or the safety of my own home. Watching something that brought my childhood nightmares to life was very engaging and unsettling. I totally get how people hate it, though.
Anonymous No.215299392
Just finished. Starting point in what is apparently the longest running western horror franchise out there (16 movies.). Typical Rosemary's Baby scenario except the baby's already been born and people want to steal it. Very traditional and old-fashioned, and until the climax has so little violence I would've bought it was a TV movie from the period. No nudity either. Have always been intimidated by how big this franchise is but I guess I'm in now.

Do a mix of both if you're able to, keep it casual. Set up a playlist of Halloween videos and whatnot going on one TV/large monitor and then run movies on your main TV.

No. The problem is they waited too long, and all the best choices are senior citizens now. You want someone young enough that can carry the series for a decade minimum.

The problem I found with country is some movies are produced by several countries. There's also those that are made in non-English countries, but the language is English. Confuses the hell out of me when searching for something. Language to me is the easiest way to do it.

It can't be a well known actor. The best casting for that kind of thing is actors nobody knows, so they feel like all they are is that character.
Also why I can't take Klaus Kinski as Nosferatu seriously, while Max Schreck will be remembered for all time

>The first one I would describe as dreamlike, surreal and slightly melancholic, something like Suspiria and other Argento stuff. The second one is body-horror, because I find this shit scary and disturbing, like The Thing or The Fly.
Go figure, these are also my two favorite kinds of horror.
>In Harperian terms I could describe it as somewhat similar to Phantom of the Paradise.
We're definitely on the same page so it looks like I'm checking this out tonight.

I have no idea how zoomers socialize, will there be women? I presume if you try and put on a movie some will be on their phones. I guess I would say Halloween related rock/punk music while getting loaded and playing some game then transition to an anthology movie since shorts are low investment and invite discussion and commentary. maybe hand out candy to trick or treaters as well to keep party flow dynamic and prompt more discussion
