Aside from its many imitators it's pretty unique.

The corny opera, helicopters, burning a forest, the shouting cunt, and the cow scene drag in down.
What do you like most about it, atmosphere, look, the descent into the unknown? Must the recommendations be war films?

It's just a Francis Ford Coppola film. He's a fat pig and his movies suck.

What imitators?

Aguirre the Wrath of God is like the smarter, hipster version of Apocalypse Now.

Totally unique. If you want to relive it, read heart of darkness

Yes, relive a crummy 70's Hollywood movie through a classic piece of literature.

Coppola reverse filters dumb teenagers into thinking his films are high art, and that he's a good director.

Coppola is a genius, the only thing he filters are tasteless zoomers who spend their evenings watching tik-tok instead of real cinema.

It's not that good.
It's got one or two great moments
It's got an interesting late-60's/early-70's mood
But it breaks too many rules with nothing to show for it.
Scene 112: We show the protag reading about Kurz some more, reading about all the awesome things Kurz was doing while the protag sits in the boat and passes by more bodies on the shore... No, we won't SHOW what Kurz was doing, that would be too awesome, we'll just tell. With a voiceover. 90% of the dialogue for this movie is voiceover.

"Hard to be a god" gives you a similar feeling of being on a journey in a strange land

If you wanted me to imagine all the cool stuff happening, leave it in a book or make a stage play. A movie is a visual medium, like a painting. Paintings invoke feelings, but don't require you to imagine how they look.
