Eggers was good when it was Harker/Hutter was traveling to the castle and interacting with the count and the scenes with the count in general. I think it's hard to translate the magic bullshit to film and it's one of a handful of adaptations that did it well. I think the contract signing was the best of the film adaptations with the weird time and space warping like where he was already sitting in a chair simply because the count demanded he sit.

>That movie is like Evil Dead 2 with more cute japanese girls
I get that its suppose to be lolsorandum and wacky, but I can't give a movie credit simply because its stupid and unconventional. The difference between evil dead and something like this is that House feels like nobody from the actors to the editor/director took their job seriously, like the whole mindset was "lets do drugs and see what happens".

Just got done watching 3 horror movies. So here's my brief and pointless thoughts:
>The Jester
Absolute shit. 80% of the movie is crying over their dead dad. Jester stuff was nice, but the effects are bad. It's even poorly shot, although the acting isn't as bad as you'd expect. Skip it.
>The Jester 2
Miles better than the first and can be watched as a standalone. The effects are still bad, but better. Didn't like the Jester removing most of his mask at first, but it grew on me. Still prefer the one from 1 though. I liked the plot and main girl, although she's a 22-year-old playing a 15-year-old. It's not a good movie, but I think it's average and did enough that I'd watch it again. Weird that (MAJOR SPOILERS) they basically kill him off and end a potential series before it gets going.
>R.L. Stine's Pumpkinhead
Oh boy, here we go. This is a 4/10 below average movie. The scarecrow costume is so basic that you immediately think "that's just a guy in a cheap outfit". If herky jerky movements are scary to you, then I guess it'll work for you. Everything about this movie is pretty bland and boring. The only reason to watch it for how it ends. That just seems a bit unnecessary for a tween horror movie. Other than that, watch any of the other superior tween/teen horror movies that are out there.

Idk, I liked it. I know the director used some ideas given to him by his daughter and you can see it, the movie has a very childish feel of horror, like being eaten alive by a piano, which combined with its bizzare special effects gives it a very disctinct personality. I as a viewer could relate to it, because it looks like I movie I could create when I was a kid if I had total creative control, even to the stuff like "lol and then a guy falls on a bucket with his butt".
It's just nothing else really like it.

This is what pisses me off the most.
Saw is remembered as "torture porn" when it at least asked interesting questions and had elaborate set ups.
Terrifier is actual torture porn. Literally just how gory can we make it lets make these characters suffer as much and as cruelly as possible for no reason and with no plot.

The /hor/ general has hit ROCK BOTTOM, maybe even lower! Weβve got actual new horror like THE BLACK PHONE 2, fresh, creative, dripping with atmosphere and made by people who still care, and nobody gives a damn! Instead, the same ten guys crawl out every thread to drool over the same tired lineup of crusty 80s flicks, sloppy VHS-tier trash thatβs been dissected to death for twenty years, and, frankly, don't get me started on the very ugly women of the 80s.
Meanwhile, anything modern that isnβt an 80s remake or a Carpenter rewatch gets ignored completely. Itβs the same brainless nostalgia buffet every thread, and you people line up for all the sloppy seconds! Itβs OVER! Nobodyβs watching or discussing good new horror anymore!
Wake up and smell the coffee, but you wonβt, because you donβt actually care about what makes a horror movie work. You never have and you never will because quality is the last thing you think about in your little heads. The /hor/ general is at the bottom of the ocean floor, right next to the Titanic and all your dusty tape collections.

It's fine when adaptations take a different approach.

The sympathetic movie monster is much more compelling than the whining vengeful sad sack of the book.

I find it unnecessarily pessimistic. Lucy's sacrifice is affirmed by Van Helsing and then subsequently rendered worthless by Jonathan, all for the sake of a cheap, Hollywood style "the evil is still out there" ending. It almost ruins the entire film for me, but the rest is so good that I can forgive it.
