i noticed a lot of the early talkies have an issue of too much talking. just because you can do one thing, you shouldnt do too much of it. some of the very early ones, like M for example strike a fine balance between completely silent scenes, adding to the dread and the exposition and plot moving dialogue heavy scenes

Deep Red is good, but it's not a horror and it's very different than Suspiria. Inferno is his second most beatifully looking film, but it's not that great otherwise. I would recommend Tenebre and Opera for now.
Also Suspiria remake is an absolute dogshit and possibly the worst movie ever made.

Just finished Viy. It was good but I have to admit I'm a little disappointed. I guess I was expecting something more serious so the goofiness threw me off. Beautiful film and 10/10 atmosphere though. The first time the witch gets out of the coffin and starts walking around was actually a little unnerving.

Not a joke or assumption, that was the intent and the major recurring "praise" for it in positive reviews I'm looking at. It's a basic murder mystery good for a episodic tv series wrapped around the writers tangenting about how awful and stupid men are and have always have been.
And I can't imagine even someone who likes that messaging not dropping the movie halfway through because of how UTTERLY insufferable the main character is. He's a cop who is an insane raving alcoholic asshole who is constantly flying into rages or outright attacking people because they said some minor slight, questioned him over him behaving like a raving psychopath, or literally providing crime evidence that doesn't align with his assumptions. The entire point of the movie is painting how awful he is and how deserving he is of all the takedowns the female characters give him (who of course he doesn't attack or scream at). I spent most of the movie wondering why the fed wasn't being called in just for his behavior nevermind the serial killings.
And this is most of the movie, as it meanders around the murder mystery which spoiler who cares it's just some guy who wasn't built up and isn't a werewolf.

Yeah, a weird one I found and posted before, the main actress in Blood Harvest was never in another movie. But the weird part is when I looked her up all I could find were a couple blogs about how she disappeared and nobody has been able to find her and her imdb says this

I think both are horror movies.
You could call them thrillers if you want but I think they're too gory and are clearly trying to scare the audience during some scenes. They're not like Se7en where most of the horror is off screen.
Both obviously mix genres though with some black comedy and police procedural elements.
