You're better off making a short film first and seeing if it works. I've made a bunch of them with friends. Full length films are a ton of work - try and write the script for one first before anything.
A lot of films are more of a science than an art anyway. People resist that, but read a bunch of screenwriting books and you'll see how much formula helps. Watching films isn't enough, that's artistic and thematic evaluation. You need structural evaluation.

a zombie movie with a stacked cast. Weird pseudo woke shit at the beginning, with the central metaphor being kids these days always on they damn phone and the world is slowly whimpering out while we all bicker. This ones not scary at all, its mostly a relaxed romp with comfy small town vibes. there some interesting characters and some silly scenes. Meta stuff and a goofy ass twist at the end really demonstrate that this movie is just for fun, and i think that might be why so much talent worked on it. There is, however, too many characters. but man, it reignited my love for chloe sevigny, who plays the only character who is reacting realistically to how fucked it would be if there were zombies.

While we're on modern zombie movies, this was a decent watch. I only get annoyed that people call it innovative and original, when it's essentially an I Am Legend adaptation without the twist, and with zombies that only really react to sound. Still, good for what it is, showing how the human mind copes with isolation and boredom

idunno man. i kinda liked it. it was stupid, it was silly, it was fun. it maybe made no sense, it maybe was a bit repetitive, it maybe was too woke to not trigger conservatards, but it had some silly scenes. the fashion bit, the frodo baggins bit, the theme song bit. a wild animal, maybe several wild animals bit. it made me jealous i wasnt on set. it was stupid, but stupid in a fun way, and its competently made.

i predict the central theme will be surviving an abusive partner, and it wont be that scary, and it wont be that good. Eli Roth doesnt have a good track record after hostel, and he seems to shove too blatant themes in his flicks, not respecting the intelligence of his audience after hostel went over so many peoples heads.

while i dont fall into the gamer opinion level, women cannot stand how much a light makeup look improves their looks and those who get too used to it see themselves as much more attractive then they actually are or absolutely hate how 'ugly' they perceive themselves with nothing on their face. makeup becomes a sort of shield that hides the face.

No I was meaning that, in order to understand what makes films good you can't just watch them, you have to sit down and analyse every part of it. How many scenes are there. At what point do critical events happen.
But people have already done that and written plenty of books on the topic. This is one topic where youtube essays aren't enough, I really suggest a book.

Just got the definitive Black Phone 2 review and I won't be seeing it.
>Black Phone 2 a car rant, and I was gonna yell up and down and I don't even have the energy for it. I'm so zoned out from the last half hour of this. With like 20 minutes, 30, maybe 20 minutes to go there's a family therapy session between some of the characters and I'm like "Why is this fucking serious?!!" Why is this a drama? It's so boring! I don't give a fuck about this stupid girl or this idiot brother who looks like fucking Chris Mulky as Shia LaBeouf as Patrick Swazy in Red Dawn. It's boring! Scott Derrickson is a repeat offending BOZO!! He always is like trying to make horror into like a 1980 domestic drama made by like Harold Becker, it's always in this like brown fuzzy 1980 Owen Roizman sheen with like dark reds and browns and stuff. BORING!! You're making a fucking Elm Street movie here, you got a guy called "The Grabber" which is stupid but there's your guy, make that and make it fun. Why is it an hour before the fucking villain shows up of therapy and her dumb dream sequences which are... like the score's pretty good, the little thing he can do that he did in Sinister with the grainy home movie footage is effective. I was like kind of OK and then they get to this winter camp, snowbound winter camp and I was like "Oh is the whole thing gonna take..." I didn't know it was all gonna take place in this like abandoned camp where he could pretend to be doing "The Thing" in some way, just in terms of some of the compositions and you know that's the kind of shit that these two idiots, he and Cargill who writes all these that they're paying homage to.The actors are fine I just don't care! I don't have any investment in the arc of these two kids from the first movie. Why would anyone even remember that?! You're making like the leap from Elm Street 3 to 4 when it's Patricia Arquette to whoever they recast her as, and those movies were fun! It wasn't this fucking serious!

Nice pick, The Blood Spattered Bride is one of those moody, erotic Spanish horror films that mixes giallo sensibility with Gothic vampire lore. Directed by Vicente Aranda, it’s kind of Spain’s answer to the Carmilla adaptations that Hammer and the Italians were doing. Dreamlike pacing, that icy aristocratic mansion, the buried vampire bride, it’s a weird, gorgeous, nihilistic slow burn.

I guess hindsight is 20/20 but they made a blunder thinking they could turn it into a franchise with the same formula. But it's like they tried to remake it while removing core parts... like the original was captivating because they ate brains to relieve the pain of death. In the second one they just eat brains because whatever.

Yes, it just misses the spark of the first movie. Maybe it's because it was directed by some hack and not by O'bannon.
The characters are also forgettable, unlike the first film.
The blonde girl was beautiful, indeed, and I liked the ginger girl as well.

You do better to take a script from an existing movie and try to analyze it. How many lines per page? How many of those lines are there just to give them a reason to go to the next scene or establish something the viewer needs to know? How many jokes, etc. For horror especially keep track of the scares/kills. How many pages between kills/scares howany overall etc then try to use that as your blueprint.

The logistics of filming are going to a whole nother matter but you won't regret having made it

That's weird, I actually just finished watching that film.

And yeah, I have to agree. Old is usually better these days because a) modern filmmakers lack vision and talent, and b) every story has been re-packaged ad infinitum.

Watched The Night of The Hunter for the first time while at the kinema, lads. Enjoyable film but shit, I now understand how much a good audience can make or break the theatre experience. The fucking normalfags and crusty ass half in the bag vintage film festival boomers were laughing during inappropriate/serious scenes and around halfway through the movie some fuckwit behin me started sniffing his nose every minute reptitively until I eventually had to move seats. I think it probably didn't help that Kimd Hearts and Coronets was screened prior to Hunter and so most people were already "primed" for dark comedic moments, but most of the time I was wishing they would just stfu. Anyway good movies. I also got to catch Freaks two night ago at the same film fest.
