I'm very disappointed in how it expands the lore and the villainess is not intriguing in the least. The prospect of an evil Na'vi faction had all the potental in the world but, as is the case with this whole series thus far, Jimmy Cameron is too bogged down on the technical side to care about what the story is. I actually don't have much context for the upcoming one (didn't see any teaser stuff for 3, haven't even seen the trailer) but while I'm thinking about it I want to recap characters in a brainstorm. I think of the original film has having a main group of 12 while the sequel introduced another 16 or so:

"Human good guys": Jake, Grace, Norm, Trudy, Max
"Bad guys": Quaritch, Selfridge, Wainfleet
"Na'vi": Neytiri, Eytukan, Mo'at, Tsu'tey

To the above (half of whom died in various ways), the sequel added these 16 or so:

Recom Quaritch and Recom Wainfleet (distinct characters, and they understand themselves as such, among the others),

the kids, Neteyam, Kiri, Lo'ak, Tuk

Water people, Tonowario, Ronal, Rotxo (still not sure on this asshole's spelling), Au'nung, Tsi'reya

Payakan,

The whalers (the doctor guy and the whaler guy), and one or two others. IIRC Ronal speaks the name of the dead mother whale aloud.

The story has a bunch of characters at this point so I'll be paying attention to meaningful character count in the next one. Some of the others can be followed-up briefly or else allowed to fall by the wayside as current drama requires.

Now that I review my own notes on 2, it's interesting to compare one detail with Aliens. In Aliens, the alien colony (about 150 individuals) is roughly halved to several dozen by the auto-guns and other events. Something similar to this happens in Avatar 2, and it isn't explictly told in either case, but clearly shown or suggested, a sense of scale. When you think about the whaling mother ship, it must have roughly 100 hands for what's shown, of whom about half seem to be wasted during the daytime battle, leaving a surviving half. And then half ot that half, about 20 bodies, are wasted by Jake and Ney during the initial night fracas (which corresponds to the Aliens escape, where they kill several but perhaps about a quarter remain overall).

Can they? This is the same humanity that didn't think to clone the whale brains in order to produce infinite immortality juice. Also there's more to being able to withstand 20% CO2 than changing the lungs. The every cell in the human body isn't build to handle so much CO2. Just giving everyone some masks for when they go outside seems like a much cheaper option. Perhaps the next generation of kids could be genetically engineered, though.

I enjoy your artstyle anon, my dad has almost all of Loisels stuff in his library so I've read most of what he has done over the years. His Peter Pan is still my favourite, very disturbing read when I was 10, iirc it's the only thing he did as both writer/artist, wish we'd gotten more of that.

So, I watched the first Avatar and only half-watched the second Avatar. Are humans back a third time to invade AGAIN? Or did the end of the second movie show that they maintained some kind of presence?
