I'm still convinced that the film would be even better if it consisted only of Willard being in the boat, reading the dossier and having philosophical inner monologues with dissonant flute music in the background for hours.

Hard to tell. Apocalypse Now had been around for so long until Redux came out, so you could make the point there was no way for many people to accept this pretty substantial addition, even if they would be whining if it were reversed (i.e. present in theatrical cut, removed in Redux). I for one liked the addition, but the whole infighting of the French at the dinner table seemed almost a little Sorkin-y to me (not that I hate Sorkin). I still think it fits well in the overall film, I prefer to have it in. Same goes for the bunnies scene.

They had it wrong, like most of the people who even apply for special forces are actually experienced soldiers.
Maybe 40s is still kind of old not not 30s.

This guy is talking absolute shit. Most special forces are in their 30s just as most champion MMA fighters are in their 30s. That's when men combine physical performance with experience.
If anyone tells you otherwise just throw them into the shit pile, that person is lying anonymously on the internet for who knows what fucking reason?

were you even in the fucking military you dumb shit? army recuits from guys who are already in as soldiers and preferably have some sort of combat experience. it takes years for that plus the paperwork and kissing ass at your current comment to let you leave to go play super soldier
in the navy though you can join up for the seals right at the recruiting station but thats a newer thing
