He is right though.

The thing that is wild about good films is that they are still nowhere near as crazy as life. The speech Scorsese's character makes in Taxi Driver is probably almost word-for-word something he or Paul heard from some random guy in sleazy old New Yawk. Imagine you're on the subway and some stranger is laughing to himself repeating, "Now THAT you should see...what a 44 magnum can do to a woman's pussy...THAT you should see"...

That's incredibly sad to hear. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. You just likened Life to a forgettable means of entertainment. You say films are life but I can continue mine without ever giving a film the time of day. Life isn't film. A film has a beginning, a middle and an ending. And then the medium degrades over time and, unless backed up, cannot and will not be restored. When we place our faith in Jesus and take our last breath here our next will be in His presence with the Father.
