there are countless other ways for to kill someone with magic that all seem far worse
shit the dementors eating people's souls seems worse than the killing curse

You have to "mean" the forbidden curses. So i think that implies that to use avada kedavra successfully you have to straight up be psychotic. The only two people who use it on screen to kill are voldemort and wormtail when he kills Cedric. Voldemort toys with the idea of using it on a kid when he goes to kill Harry. Real psycho shit
