Nah, but. I don't even hate the idea of a musical 'sode. Maybe controversial. I like musicals. Busby Berkeley, '50s MGM, CATS!. All great and fun. In terms of sheer ENTERTAINMENT, it's hard to top a good musical. Like, you sit there and practically OD on its visceral spectacle. And it's so easy to set one up in Trek. Handwave an excuse, 'a subspace anomaly has infected the crew and made us sing'. And there, you have a fun premise for a fun one-off.

But, obviously. It has to be done well. And it wasn't. The Klingon bit is probably the most entertaining one. Honestly. Every song feels so generic. All just about unrequited love and whatever. Poppy sounding ballads. That could be put into the sound track of a hallmark musical romcom and would not sound out of place. Like the songs were just pulled from a catalogue. Nothing about any of the songs were TREK. And they had the opportunity to make a Star Trek musical. Wasted it. They could've commissioned Trek themed songs. Used theremin music. The dance sequences were lazy and boring. Get a professional dancer or acrobat and do something crazy. Like a choreographed dance scene in the style of a TOS fight. How they jumped all over. Make a Trek musical actually be Trek.

And also, what annoyed me. How Kurtzman, et al. acted like this was some unique and creative and interesting thing to do. But they're chasing a trend from the '90s. Not doing anything new. Buffy, Xena, Daria, Ally McBeal, etc. It's been done, you hacks. And they're over a decade late to even doing it in the Scrubs, Psych, Community meta style.

Ehhh I dunno. I started with TNG and I feel like TNG better represents what most Trek is. Like, TOS is such a unique beast, it truly stands alone (well, except for TAS which is fucking awesome but still). But TOS is very much an acquired taste - if you can't appreciate the distinctly 60s tone, style and aesthetics, you'll fucking hate every second of it no matter how much the storyline might be interesting. But if you vibe with it, you'll love even the bad episodes (of which there are many especially in season 3).
TNG is far more palatable as an entry-point - it has some of the old-school charm and is fully episodic but more "modern" than the INTENSELY 60s vibe of TOS.
I adore both TOS and TNG but sometimes I think I am in the minority, and I only went to TOS after both TNG and DS9.
