He's only king allegorically, that's why he tells the hobbits they bow to no one and he bows to them instead

Nigger, aristocratic rule is what middle earth is all about. Even the hobbits have hereditary offices.

The 12 sheriffs are hereditary but the hobbit army is comprised of the bounders or boundary guards of the high hedge. They have a small volenteer force of men like farmer Maggot who patrol the holly hedge they planted to keep fanghorn forest out and occasionally fight its evil

I hated the ghosts. Never mind the specter ex machina aspect of it, but thematically, it's so stupid to have the big hero(tm) win with the help of necromancy.
If only they'd at least have made the ghosts a shade of greyish white and have them help him enthusiastically and heroically, and not reluctantly and selfishly
>But muh prophecy
The one introduced 5 minutes prior? Have it mentioned in the first movie and it might slightly justify it

On the topic of criticism, the film would have had a much better ending of Frodo would have fallen in the volcano. Even better so if he'd done it willingly, that he might show his complete sacrifice
In the end, the ring was destroyed by chance, certainly not by his will, so I don't see why he should be seen a hero.
>But he willed Gollum to live
Because of his inert goodness or naivite?

The ghost work much better in the book by scaring off the enemies from their boats so they can commandere them and go to help, even though like the movies it's introduced when convenient and is kind of bullshit.
>frodo in the volcano willingly
The whole point was that when it came down to it he could not overcome the ring, and Gollum played the part he was destined to play due to Frodos pity in not slaying him. Far more thematically consistent this way.
