People buy these underpowered handheld PCs because the original Switch 1 was so easy to emulate. But the Switch 2 is using DLSS and ray tracing cores so any emulator would have to replicate those technologies.
And even if emulation works well all those AMD-based handhelds are still screwed because the Switch 2 is running Nvidia proprietary tech.
If the Switch 2 gets a working emulator, you'll need a powerful Nvidia GPU and a really beefy CPU to run it properly, these handhelds PCs stand no chance.

The Switch 1 wasn't even very easy to emulate on Deck. Any game that wasn't a first year title like Mario Odyssey suffered from accuracy errors and some performance issues from the overhead of emulation, much less the usual shader compilation stutter. IMO you'd have a much better time emulating Switch 1 on PC, because the performance on Deck wasn't high enough to support even a smooth handheld experience.
I had a lot more fun catching up on my Gamecube and 3DS backlogs on the Deck than playing Switch games.

The appeal of handhelds isn't portability anymore, they don't even fit in your pocket anymore, Switch included. The original Switch was too big for that, let alone the even bigger Switch 2.

So if that's the case, then why wouldn't power and screen quality reign supreme now? Then the Switch 2, with mediocre hardware and an outdated LCD screen, is definitely behind stuff like the upcoming Legion Go 2 coming soon.

Also, the Switch 2 ergonomics suck and the sticks and buttons are of the lowest quality. This is why people are waiting for the Steam Deck 2 - top of the line ergonomics.

Hasn't happened to Switch 1 yet, and I can keep expanding the library for both systems. I don't have screen protector for Switch 2 yet, so if I'm around the house and need to buy a game on sale, I just grab my switch 1 and buy a game that's on sale (since save for NWN 1, most seem to be compatible for Switch 2). I don't need to deal with the headache of Windows when I can just play on Switch. On my PC I have killer hardware, yet I get poor performance on games I like to play, just because my OS has little bit of bloat on it. So to gain more performance I would have to clean install my entire OS, lose all of my programs I've installed for my other hobbies (hundreds). This is how you kill the "personal" from "Personal Computing", when the only way to obtain good performance on video games is to have "clean install" of Windows (which is what techtubers always have when the post their benchies on hardware tests). Deck is likely up around 6-7 million now when combining LCD and OLED sales, but only numbers for the LCD have really leaked out.
Nintendo has been banking Switch 2 units for a while for a big launch, Deck by contrast has been shipping out the weekly production since the start because warehouse space for millions of units is expensive.

Now that Switch 2 is through the launch and onto weekly shipments, it will probably be around 2.5x Deck's weekly limit of 100k max, but Valve may not be driving their lines as hard as they could, and both companies will be banking some number of units for the holiday buying rush.

I think the plethora of handheld gaming PCs shows that a lot of manufacturers have missed the point.

The reason why the Switch was successful wasn't because it was a portable "hybrid" system.

It was because it merged Nintendo's console and handheld markets. Which meant that instead of develop games for both the console and the handheld, Nintendo only had to develop games for one system. This allowed Nintendo to maintain a steady flow of games.

Nope. As someone who has a Switch 2 coming in soon, the OG Switch and a Steam Deck the first thing I tell people who want a Deck is "Do you want to deal with Linux?" and in most cases they dont. Switch/Switch 2 are accessible devices that anyone and everyone can use and serve no other purpose but to play games, the Deck itself while primarily a gaming device is also its own hobbyist device, only people who care about Linux gaming will really get it.

To westerners, portability means pocketability. To everyone else, portability means backpackability / briefcasability / satchelability. After smartphones came out, nobody cares about using the ugly cargo shorts to store your cheetoh crusted handheld.
Also lots of indies and AA games play much better on a small screen. Small screens can get away with lower-but-consistent framerates as well, especially at 40 Hz / VRR without looking like ass.

I'm ok with the Switch-style joycon sticks, but I really wish they'd commit to having bigger ones with a deeper action like the deck. that's the one thing that's holding it back IMO. The Hori split pad pro, as WIDE as it was, still felt better in the hand, and like 60% of the reason was the better sticks.
