When it comes to communism, you can, for example: Create a workers cooperative, within a capitalist state. You can have a worker owned company or union that it run by the people for the people. These exist, a good few are successful.
If you've ever played an MMORPG, most enthusiastic guild essentially run as communist cooperatives, the players all contribute and resources are allocated by central planning. If you participate in high end raid content more resources are given to you, since you need them, if you're just a casual gathering herbs and chilling out, those resources are taken from you. And these function well in small societies.
On a wider scale, you can't enforce communism without violence, because unlike how you can create a coop in capitalist society, you cannot create a private corporation in a communist society. As soon as one person attempts to do so, you need to invoke the violence of the state to "reeducate them" for the greater good.
