Nope. The story is dogshit and its full of needless bloat like most other gachas. Combat is way too simplistic because they are terrified that gacha babies will be put off by more complex mechanics.
Characters exist during their patch shilling period and then we most likely never hear from them again. I like Herta and Himeko and during these 2 years of Star Rails existence, I feel like I barely had the chance to interact with them.

HSR could have been so good if they just stayed humble, but no they had to go full retard on powercreep and greediness. Can't trust Hoyoverse with anything, I stay with Horizon Walker, top fan service and you can get every character + their weapon f2p as long as you play regularly.

I've got a stash of tickets saved up for the collab + phainon but after that, I'm probably quitting.

They blew it with Penacony, and then doubled down on their worst plot with space China 2. The story only exists to shill new characters now, no matter how incomprehensible and bloated it becomes as a result. Also, after Penacony the dialogue turned into wordslop that's somehow even more tedious and annoying than Genshin.

It's a shame, it had such a decent start, but hoyo always reverts to it's worst qualities with enough time. I doubt ZZZ will be any different in a year.

The worst part is, Welt and Himeko SHOULD be interesting characters. They have some pretty cool lore, but it doesn't fucking matter because they won't make hoyo any money. So instead they're relegated to being the token parent type characters. They absolutely should be recruiting people, but that means paying more people so they fucking won't.

And yes, the VN format works way better, hsr suffers from some of the worst canned animations and awful camera work of any gacha I've played.

Honkai star rail always do the same poses, even genshin bothers to change the camera angle or add some extra animation
It's also a fucking turn based game where you don't even jump, their models could have been more unique too

Every part of HRT's story fucking sucks except Belobog. That one planet tricked me into thinking the game is good. The rest has been just bad ideas with worse execution.

Did they ever add any fun new stuff other than battles? I remember returning a few times but it was always "oh boy, can't wait to set on the auto-battle and repeat the process every half minutes!" for about a several nigtrillion times, because character and weapon mat grinding is all there is to actually to. At least Genshin I can bing bing wahoo around and Blue Trash lets me spend all my stamina with one click.

The game would need a comprehensive redesign to be saved. Hoyo has the money for it, but not the interest. They'll run it to the ground instead and just promote whatever trash they make next, and the cycle will continue.

The main problems of HRT:
