E3 2006 would have taken place in the Los Angeles convention centre
Grab yourself some Mnt Dew and lets take a trip through the convention and see how the next generation of consoles is shaping up

Pretty much, but covid is what killed it for good.
The benefits of a public presentation is the ability to have a truly 'live' show. Stuff like the Uncharted 4 running on real hardware thing was a really good example of that for Sony.
Nintendo just showed the 'path' essentially. Every company had their E3 flubs and Nintendo had by far the most, so they bowed out completely. I imagine MS and Sony were more worried about looking like they were scared if they dropped public appearances prior to covid.
What *is* the best E3 flub should be the real question though.
>$599 US Dollars
>Killzone 2 running on real hardware
>Konami E3 2010
>PEGGLE... 2
>The Xbox One showcase
>Wii Music
>Skyward Sword reveal
That last one is probably the reason why Nintendo only does directs now.

You have no idea how many times I watched and re-watched and re-watched and re-watched this trailer, analyzing it. I remember every single line of dialogue being decoded and theorized by autists, "Am am your sword I am your shield" and some people heard it as source. Fucking kino
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9Ezd2FqxAU
We will never have moments like this in gaming anymore. Zoomers can never understand the hype for this game, there will never be another game reveal trailer like this ever again.

To any younger readers:
Don't be fooled. This was the beginning of the end. By this point, normies infected the hobby and publishers did everything in their power to take their shekels. There was so much shovelware being made back then, kids call it "slop" these days, but it's really not much different than now. The only reason why boomers think this time was better is because today is worse, when really it's been worse for almost 2 decades.

As much as the "brown & bloom" generation was lambasted during its time there were still good games coming out consistently. Now we're see-sawed between short periods of decent games releasing and months of nothing but shit. Having dudebro shooters releasing regularly was a much better marker of time for the industry than having to see the exact the same liveservice slop shooters proliferate for a decade.

I was 15 at the time and considered dumb and childish. Now I wish I got the chance to do it. (Of course I can do it alone right now but it's not the same. Internet culture is also not as forgiving of dumb shit like that anymore.)

makes me wish we got an actual American Dad or King of the Hill video game during the mid-to-late 2000s instead of them being regulated into crossovers with IPs, point-and-clicks or mobile games. American Dad had a shitty mobile game and King of the Hill had a shitty PC game and the two ended up being regulated into crossover games with Animation Throwdown and Warped Kart Racers (and both are rumored to be in Fortnite soon)

To be fair E3 was getting worse with each year, if it were still alive today it'd be an unrecognizable beaten dead horse.
Remember when /v/ got mad that one year everyone was wearing rainbow badges because someone shot up a gay bar? Imagine in 2025 how it'd look like.

I was a freshman in college last month before summer break. I remember a group of guys and I gathered around my friends shitty laptop to watch this trailer. It was like a real cultural event - nerds, jocks, party bros, everyone cared. The visuals looked unbelievable. So much innocent wonder for some game. We'd have to wait all summer for the game to launch in the fall.
It was Halo 3, and Half Life 2: Ep 2, and StarCraft 2. Those 3 games to me where where the magic slowly faded away into adulthood.

No? I consider that Steam has gotten better for example. Also Linux, linux has gotten a LOT better in time, compared to when I first tried it 15 years ago.
The problem is a lot of stuff suffers from enshittification, initial group who did the stuff gets replaced by money grubbing investors who start penny pinching and cutting costs and other bullshit in the name of profit, and of course things get worse. If you have an environment or person at the helm that doesn't value short term profits above all else, then things will get better.

Hell, when I was browsing /v/ in 2009, Halo used to be shat on at every opportunity for being a game for kids, the way Fortnite was when it came out. Meanwhile I was playing Unreal Tournament and Stalker and stuff.
Both groups grew up and replaced the majority though so now we deal with the consequences.

What I personally didn't understand was the hype for Halo single player, I certainly could see how the multiplayer was fun and I tried it couple of times at a friends house at the time... but the singleplayer campaigns are just completely awful! You repeat the same levels against very boring enemies and the combat doesn't feel punchy or like anything at all really

I had a PS2, GC and PC and the PC was the FPS machine, the only console FPS I played a lot at that time was 007 Nightfire for the local multiplayer on the GC. I played some Halo at friends' house but it was just whatever, Unreal Tournament 2004, C&C Renegade and Call of Duty 1 were my online multiplayer shooters. Halo on Xbox live was completely unappealing to me. Inferior controls to play with dumb brats?
As for singleplayer, come on, I was spoiled for choice on late 90s and early 2000s PC FPS.
