Other than that the camera in it also fucking sucks because it's so fucking close over the shoulder the entire time so you don't really get to enjoy the environment because James is in the way.
The remake is fine but honestly the originals are far better experience. If this remake is similar to SH2's it should be okay just hope the camera isn't glued so close the entire time and that it fucking runs consistently on PC.

In Bloober's version, everything is played straight. Characters are having completely normal and reasonable conversations while trapped in their own disparate Hells

It has the soundtrack but lacks the flourishes. In addition to the aforementioned issues with voice direction, the scene where James meets Pyramid Head doesn't have the same impact because it doesn't have those sharp, echoing synths and ambient drones looping in the background. This results in a scene lacking the gripping intensity in the original

Overall, this version of the game feels less like an ethereal fever dream, where James’ personal psychosis is uniquely shaped by the town, and more like a series of literal events unfolding in the real world. The ephemeral nature has been dissected and HBO has been left in its place

Sure they took some liberal choices but the old games are basically VN. Specially 1 and 2. 4 and past games were more games than visual novels but they were not as receptive here it feels.

The combat mechanics are functional, but it's almost laughable that Bloober gave James iframes) and an Isaac Clarke-style stomp. In this version, he's more of a killing machine than the frail, tormented man he was in the original. They basically turned him into Diet Leon Kennedy in this. There's also far too much combat. Nearly every room has multiple enemies that actively hunt you down, forcing constant combat.

This heightened aggression also undermines James as a representation of misogyny. The female creatures are incredibly hostile, making James' violence against them seem more justified. In contrast, in the original, they were much more passive, and killing them was often a cognitive and morally questionable decision that the player and, by extension, James had full agency over.

And perhaps worse is that the combat is just fucking dull. Nobody is gonna sit here and try to convince you that Silent Hill 2 had “good” combat mechanics in a traditional sense. But it’s combat worked within the context it existed in and Konami knew how to pace those encounters. Conversely, I genuinely think this game has more moment-to-moment combat than fucking God of War Ragnarok.

The game leans so heavily on repetitive enemy placements for predictable, cliché jump scares that, combined with the overwhelming amount of combat, it becomes a tedious slog.

I was wondering how Bloober was going to turn a seven- to eight-hour game into one that is nearly twenty hours, and this is how. It's just a much poorer-paced game overall.

One last example I'll mention, is the game's use of the radio. In the original, the radio would start crackling long before you could see any enemies, creating a rising sense of dread as you anticipated what might be lurking around the next corner.

In the remake, however, you can often approach enemies without any signal from the radio. It feels like the radio is no longer used as a diegetic tool to build tension

SH3 never gives an exact year but it's safe to assume it is set in 2003. Heather is 17 years old in that game and was born at the very end of SH1.

So SH1 is set in 1986.

I think that some criticism from nostalgic and historical fans is necessary to maintain the style that has distinguished the series, otherwise it would be too similar to RE or other third-person horror games.
At the same time it is right that something changes to make the action more modern and where possible change some design choices to give it a better sense of progression and cohesion, with sh2r for example I think they did a good job from this point of view (improving areas such as apartments).
What I didn't like? Well, for example, I know it's a meme, but the credits lack soul, some camera shots are too standard and the aesthetic style of the characters is perhaps too modern. I'm glad that with the first criticisms they changed James' expressions and other minor details, but much more could have been done.
I hope they learned from their mistakes and don't make a mess now that SH seems to be back.

This also extends to literal censorshipping of PH's actions. He's now just the SH Movie's "Executioner".

The voice acting is just as bad as in the 2010's HD Collection.
The new OST is over-produced, quite akin to how Lucas butchered his Star Wars remasters' scores, or how the Square-Enix raped Final Fantasy X-X2's HD ports' OSTs; too many added layers of instruments muddling the melody and the early 00's punk-rock vibes, replacing it with something akin to a big band cover.

The use of said soundtrack is also way worse, with less thought put into the mixing;
Why does the PH's appearance noise from the Apartments start playing randomly when exploring the streets before reaching the Blue Creek?
What's the point of the radio if it's constantly covered by the dynamic soundtrack blasting with max volume if you come across a foe?

The in-game and cutscene cinematography is all around inferior to the 2001 original, possessing all the telltale signs of the post-2010s' capeshit tropes.

The gameplay is yet another OTS slop a la SH: Homocoming x TLOU x RE4R;
focusing too much on combat and further destroying the brilliant camera-work and player guidance the originals had. It also adds fucktons of generic "open world" and "cinematic" busywork that plague modern triple-A shit.

The UE5 means that you need an RTX4000 series card to get even 30fps at 1080p, using DLSS, all while ruining your eye sight either with the TAA smear, or noisy, runny dithering. No in-betweens.
