Anything unique got erased in the UE5 asset flip. I think people like the remake because it plays it so safe and plays like every other game. It's a box, they pick it up, it looks like a game, they beat it and move on. But it totally lacks any meaningful identity.

The remake is actually a bit more conventionally "gamey". You can imagine a Dark Souls style health-bar and name "Red Triangle Thing" pop up when you face off against PH the first time. Bosses Roar as well like "bosses". PH looks "cool". You fight him in a nice big giant "boss arena" (that doesn't look like it should fit within the apartments at all). The aestetics are from the movies, etc.

The original could be said to be a misfire since it was cinematic and artistic with a lot of focus on aestetics and atsmophere. It likely bored a lot of initial gamers in 2001.

The atmosphere is OK at best, and only when it actually mirrors the 2001 original closely.
Every other aspect is more or less butchered beyond repair, from gameplay and pacing, to the writing and acting. A lot of sexual aspects are outright censored, all thanks to SBI. The OST and way audio is used is amateurish, and all the modern UE5 jank is the icing on this feces cake.

>Not by the late 90s no it wasn't.
it was, and remained so up until the late of the 00s. There's a reason why Nintendo innovated by focusing on the "casual audiences" from 2006 onwards.

Ito's been on an endless backpedaling streak the past 2 years now.
Let's not forget that he makes literal nightmare fuel bondage porn art for living, and that the official 2001 Making Of documentary for SH2 clearly has TS stating the game's two main themes being "SEX and death", often with an unpleasant mixture of both.

My money's on the narrative that the Sweet Baby Inc 2.0 + Snoy essentially tried their best to white-wash any "icky, problematic representation" out of the game for the "modern audiences (tm)".

>Yeah, I guess they can do lighting and atmosphere well, which is very important for SH
But they cannot. SH2 was an absolute embarrassment when it comes to in-game and cutscene cinematography. See :

They are also cock-socks for the Sweet Baby Inc and Jewnami, meaning double whammy of cancers.

>Ito gets assblasted at people saying Pryamid head rape was in the game when in his opinion it's not so he just removed as much of it as possible to get it firmly out of grey territory
>In doing so he makes the scenes more flat. boring and uninspired

Guess it's not all on Bloober being fucking retards for once

>James doesn't react passively to Maria's flirty touches at the water front and instead tries to get away

Anyone defending the demake flat out doesn't understand Silent Hill 2 (Yes that includes the mentally ill twitter dev on it too)
