SH's biggest innovation and appeal from the very get-go has been its tendency to encourage AVOIDING conflicts whenever possible, by utilizing the simple yet effective stealth elements (turning OFF flashlight, moving quietly) or just by legging it. This meshes great with the traditional survival horror scene as well, as replaying the same game numerous times and eventually speedrunning them for even better rewards kinda requires not engaging with the enemies.

The GenZ toddlers staring Twitch streams and whatnot literally have no fucking clue what Silent Hill even is. The same shit happened with games like Doom, Zelda, and even Resident Evil just a few years ago, with the shitty 2016 / Eternal, BotW and RE7-8 + demakes being many kiddos' first touch with these old "boomer games" that seldom saw coverage on their Piss4-5 systems any more.

Now Metal Gear Solid is in a similar tough spot, with few 10-20yos even knowing who Solid Snake is, which is a juicy chance for the Jewnami to milk:
they can remake and rebrand the IP into anything they want, and market it as the hottest shit ever, free of the shackles of the OG developers' and fans' visions and desires.

Turning SH into a "RE4 clone" was an universally hated decision 16 years ago.
Back then, the term "Souls-like" wasn't yet even invented, as the only game of the sort was the Demon's Souls, which itself was seen as a mere real-time 3D take on dungeon crawlers. These days, however, it's very easy to see the Souls-like influences in every other action horror title, with parrying, dodging and timed combos playing more and more important, more time consuming role in these games.
Just like how RPGs have devolved from actual ROLE-playing sims into "action-slop with numbers going up", the horror genre's quickly being homogenized into similar over-shoulder 3rd person hack&slash.

On one hand, obviously im excited to see what they can do. In fact, i would say it has a lot of potential and a lot of stuff they could include. Kauffman side plot with the white claudia, something with Harry wife and her death, and more Harry characterization
But on the other hand, i hope they dont taint it with SH2 and onwards stuff.

Example: the nurses. In Sh1, the nurses/doctors dont look like sh1 and onwards, they look like normal people but with some parasite in back. Their manly moans (women) and monster growls (men) are unsettling as fuck. But im 100% they will make them like sh2 nurses and onwards. Why? just look at the nurses in SH3.
Sh1 has a lot of unique and unsettling camera work as well, something they didnt do in SH2 remake and it isnt even in SH2 as well. The entire alley section is so good im sure they wont do it with all the dutch angles.

Decomp is also extremely tedious with how computer compilers work. Adding an extra line makes less things match up especially on older compilers because the computer reads certain functions the same way but will perform them in multiple different ways and it's completely random.

One thing the SH2 remake did do well was the tone and atmosphere, it was closer to the horror feeling of SH1 and 3 than 2's more melancholic feel. SH1 is a much better game than 2 though, so there's only so much you can improve on, especially when it mostly comes from the atmosphere and level design, two things Bloober isn't afraid of changing.

Let's speculate possible new endings for Silent Hill:

It's a cult that worships a female god and it believes humanity created her due to their desire to be free from suffering, and the rationale some of the more extreme members take is that for a vessel to birth her, it must first experience horrific suffering itself, so they subject the local psychic girl in a town full of weird supernatural energy to torture in the hopes of birthing their God - only for them to actually cause the reality bending powers of the town to create something much, MUCH worse. One part in the second game has you digging up an item near a statue dedicated to a cult saint who was persecuted and burned at the stake by the Christian settlers for her heresy.
