No, SH1 and SH2 don't need straight remakes, they are perfectly fine as they are. RE2 style of remake where it is a new attempt at the same concept, but without reinventing or subverting anything like SH Shattered Memories did, is ideal.

If they just did a straight remake of SH1 with better graphics (ironically will be worse for SH1's presentation considering how important the graininess and muddy look is to the 'nightmare' feel) and over the shoulder camera, then why even play it? At least with the Bloober and Capcom style of remake you are actually getting a fairly different experience than the original game.

Oh I know, but a lot of people think the series is like classic RE where the camera is fixed. But anyway, I'm honestly fine with the series moving from fixed angle. It worked decently in SH1 where the game gave you ample ammo and health, but I feel like it really showed it's age in SH3 where there is a bigger emphasis on combat. I remember how awkward it was fighting the slurpers in the hospital. SH2 is different because the game can basically be played without ever fighting an enemy because of how easy it is to run around them.

Except the remake did that better than the original ten fold. In the original SH2, there was never any level of threat, outside of bosses, because the enemies were slow, weak to melee and easy to maneuver. Then there was James himself: the dude has the marksmanship of a Navy Seal being able to tag anyone and anything. It's not the same in the original where James's has manually aim, slowly fire and slowly reload. And then it gets worse with every new weapon. SH2R did a better job of showing James as someone who is barely getting bye.

1. Silent Hill lore is still argued over to this day without firm consensus about a lot of it. The public's understanding of the story has been altered pretty permanently by what Origins and the movie depicted so we have to hope they only look at the source material and keep things that are ambiguous just as ambiguous.

2. Obviously the rough graphics of the original has benefited the atmosphere of the game as it has aged, to the point that new games are now trying to replicate the sharp, dirty PS1 art style.
They're obviously not going to make it look like a PS1 game, so how are they going to try and keep that atmosphere and look? Or will they just not even try to recapture it, and instead base the visuals very closely off what was done for SH2 remake.

What you should actually fear is them bringing retarded Origins plot points like >>712596117 into 1. Even worse if they pull anything from Homecoming. 2 avoided this possible issue by having as little to do with the Order and the town's origins as possible. That's pretty funny considering Silent Hill 1's Henry is an unstoppable juggernaut capable of firing a sawed off shotgun like a pistol and SH3 might as well be the most action packed of the classic era with the amount of weapons you get and the enemies the game throws at you.
