I never understood the dislike for the Apartments area in SH2. It's a great intro to a horror game. Claustrophobic, dark, confusing, surreal. A lot of iconic moments happen there too, like Pyramid Head raping the monsters or the Angela knife scene.

While the inspirations it draws from would clearly point towards it being rape, Ito has been claiming otherwise since at least 2011, perhaps even earlier. I genuinely believe him, to some extent. Copying something doesn't necessarily mean you understand it, as shown repeatedly in the franchise.
