Yeah, Deck is mostly about getting a PC platform outside of Microsoft's control up to a sustainable user base where devs start supporting it. Handheld is just a convenient way to accomplish that because modern Windows is always going to be too heavy to really compete in that segment.

With Linux up to 5% outside China they're on their way to making it happen. They just need to figure out how to get net cafes over there to buy SteamOS systems instead machines with pirated Windows.

I would argue that it's not worth it to buy one in 2025 unless you buy a refurbished Deck. I mean $300 for slightly blurrier visuals than the Switch 2 and roughly the same performance, with all the benefits of pc gaming? It's a bargain. The OLED Deck is pricey for what it is, but I still find it much more valuable than a console locked down to the level of the Switch 2. There is no end to the amount of games I can play on a Deck right after buying it without buying anything else, without even having a mother fucking Steam account, while on the Switch 2 I'm stuck buying all of the 2 games that just came out, and relying on old Switch titles that might or might not run somewhat better, upscaled. Of which 95% are indie games the Deck runs much better.
Like if I had to pay 500 bucks for a handheld at least I'd ask more than just playing cyberpunk at under 30fps at times. And by more I don't mean more performance. Fuck is the point of performance without games? Look at what happened to the OG Xbox. The PS2 took a shit on it and it was much weaker.
