It's cause you can actually hit them. Augur requires you to learn its movement patterns much more, since it won't just come right back to you as obviously as Gaping Maw. You also need to cotton on, as a melee person, to go after the jellies and tentacles, since you can more easily do damage that way if Augur gets away from you.

But above all, the nuke is very difficult to deal with if you don't have a competent and kitted out ranged person on the team. It's entirely manageable with melee, but it's much trickier and the consequence is very dire.

All of the supers have some sort of non-obvious utility to them, and the less useful ones tend to be those that require a relic to add it on (Revenant's immortality scream also activates her summons' super moves, which is whatever, but a relic adds a ghostflame burst, which honestly feels like it should be there to begin with).

The big mistake of Elden Ring is honestly how they butchered Melina. It's no wonder more people did Ranni's story than Melina's.
Though Ranni leaves out details, she actually elaborates on her quest and what she requests of you. She doesn't just point you in a direction and then mysteriously keep quiet. And with how you don't even see Melina after the very beginning of the game, outside of the few sites where Marika's words lingered. You could almost forget all about Melina even.

Melina genuinely should have sat down alongside you at almost every single site of grace. And hold your hand and say her phrases whenever you tried to level up. Every single time.

Her final journal entry invokes that defeating the night lord is the final step of her master plan. She then has no unique ending for defeating the night lord. Because what happens next is Wylder's ending, putting them both back to the start of this. It's a closed loop of them trying to save each other and never doing it. Why does Caligo's theme feel like more of a final boss theme than Heolstor's?

In my experience I get zero halberd drops and everything I'd want to guard counter on pushes me out of range for other weapons
Shieldpoke builds feel pretty good for most things, but he's been by far my worst for solo nightlord clear rate, even though I keep getting crazy drop luck for things like mohg spear with him.

Ironeye is way more fun to play as melee

That's gotta be a record. Most of that was from the Wylder (who seemed like he was new, felt kinda bad for him), but the Guardian and I did our fair share of dying, too. The rain completely overtook us while we were fighting loretta in the southern lake (we won though), and it took so long to get back that we all got auto killed. Guardian and I ran back for our runes, but I think the Wylder didn't know that was an option.
Thought we weren't going to make it at the boss. I spent a not insignificant portion of the fight with zero flasks, and the Wylder spent a not insignificant portion of the fight down with 3 bars. Guardian was great at getting him back up though even without his ult.

I wonder if the ex versions of the nightlords will drop +1 boss relics
