I'm on chapter 10. I'm upset because I fucked up and lost Wappa. And the game apparently saved. Oh well, I'm gonna do a rerun anyway.
My main thought so far is the story is getting pretty stupid, but I still enjoy the game. I think they started to have more success with the series and so they wanted to just shove a bunch of stuff they had wanted to use beforehand into this one.
Some of the systems are really an improvement. I quite like the combo system, though once I got the unlock that adds those rainbow Weaknesses, it has made I almost too easy.

Finished my first run yesterday. Story is a downgrade from 2 because it struggles to maintain tension but it's okay overall, I just wish the True Ending chapter wasn't so lame. Gameplay is better than ever thanks to the combo system.
What really bums me is the amount of recycled assets and CG illustrations. Shimipan's artwork was an essential part of the series' charm and her absence is sorely felt throughout the game. It screamed low effort at times.

You get a lot of Jin's perspective from link events, which is interesting and makes sense, but barely any of Flam's, even taking the three assist events into account. What we got for Flam was great she just didnt play a role in the major narrative. That is the writers fault for writing out all the cast that was not the main kids and focus only on Moon Colony Bloodbath story for half the game. If they kept the game grounded and stayed more focused on the politics of Berman and Gasco she and the rest could have played roles. But the second the story focused only Maestro and Ash and went full retard on shonen tropes it was over for the supporting cast.

I don't think it had to be that way. The shounen shit with the moon and Maestro and all that doesn't bother me because it's what the story was obviously building towards. What I do mind was that throughout 3 games, CC2 never really took any risks building on and expanding the gameplay. The little additions here and there like assists, burst attacks, and the random support procs feel less like evolution and more like QoL. They also didn't really do anything to expand the cast of playable characters. I think what we needed was more of a time gap between 2 and 3 and characters like Flam being worked into the playable cast and integrated into the story of fighting for the sake of their world.You can still keep the core concept of tank travels along path and two characters per gun but expand on it with new ideas and presentation like light tactics options and expanding on the base building aspect of the Taranis and opening it up for more customization of playstyle rather than a linear progression path. I get why none of this ever really happened though. I think what held them back is budget just wasn'tever really there so they never got to really nurture their pet project and let it grow and mature. 3 definitely felt like it took the biggest hit because it felt the most rushed and slapped together and story just wasn't what it could have been.

Flam was apart of the playable cast she was an assist you could use. Or do you mean have her operate a canon? Cause that would entail her to be in the taranis and that would cause problems for the writers. Which is why they had that confusing teleport assist mechanic which basically rips out the character from wherever they are in the world somehow with their weapon too to lend a hand. I do agree they needed to actually be involved in the story, the fact that none of the assist cast even met a knight or talked to them was disappointing.

The fact they had so many bugs on launch is proof of that. That would be one option, yes, or they could utilize her in some other fashion like the aforementioned expanded base building aspect to the Taranis like options to bolt on additional support weapons operated by other characters that take the place of the current assist system and are utilized differently like needing to be swapped in and out like the kids instead of just picked from a list once meter is full. I don't even necessarily think allowing other characters on the Taranis really does cause problems because technically speaking, the Taranis only really seems to care that its operators have the will to fight (going back to the cliche shounen shit) and Malt and Mei were really the only two characters it NEEDED to call out to because of their "sight". It had more of a connection to the kids from the main cast because it already worked with them in the first game but it's not like those kids (Malt and Mei aside) were special or that it needed to be kids.

I mean yeah, with 2 already barely changing the gameplay formula and presentation, I never expected things to suddenly change with 3. It does from a story telling point and a logistical one. Story telling because the devs like to show the reaction of each kid in the tank. Those kind of drawn out segments where we have to see 12 different reactions to something in the story, they would probably have to do for each assist. So that would another 7+ more. And a logistical sense because when you explore the tank in intermissions they would need models to occupy the tank during their downtime. Which costs time and money, and the supply closet can only hold like 1 or 2 people at most so it would be odd to always have them hiding in that closet during intermissions. At the end of the day most of their problems are caused by themselves, but I do agree that they could have done more and its a sad sight to see it end on a pitiful whimper

For gold just enter the first intermission of a chapter (i used chapter 7 since it had all of the children available and afaik it has the least cutscenes to skip, but there might be a better one) and spam the max difficulty fishing for materials to sell, you will also get a bunch of crypto for doing that which you can trade for items that sell a lot like great energy cells, in half an hour or less you should have enough buy the gold pawbun, which makes affinity go significantly higher (it lets you get rank 10 with a pair and like rank 4-5 with another in a single intermission) if you haven't done the challenges yet i highly recommend doing the affinity farming in between those so its less ming numbing
