I bought a PS3 and 4 because they had a lot of games I wanted to play. Since they started porting them to PC I've had no compulsion to buy a PS5. I can see buying a Switch 1/2 because Nintendo does their own thing and it's portable. Thankfully for me their games are easy to emulate so I'm all good.

I just don't get the economics behind modern publishers.

We already have Strix Halo that as a single package gives you 16c/32t and a GPU comparable to a desktop 4060 and it does this in a range of 60w to 140w. A future console on a much newer process is going to be more powerful than that by a good margin.

You don't buy a gaming PC for it to be utilitarian. Also, you've got the issue of having to replace Windows OS later down the line, plus it being a spy machine with all the telemetry inside it now. Nintendo makes most of their money off hardware sales and expensive games that retain their value instead of going on sale for 50% off within a few months while Sony makes most of their money off of PS+ and MTX. Nintendo wants $20 a year for paid online, Sony wants $80.
