Stargate shows are ultimately more like Mission Impossible (the TV series) in space.
only a fraction of the screentime is dedicated to Saving Private Ryan military action with aliens, or to Star Wars space combat. none of these is thus developed enough to make a game on its own, and trying to put both in a single game would require a huge budget and still not feel like the series.

Best setup would be an offworld base
Monthly shipments of supplies from Earth
Send teams out to shit that your gate can connect to but Earth one can't for reasons
Free to upgrade base because its not the Earth one
Plenty of Guauld stuff but also other races and things to meet. Give devs license to add things not in the show.
XCom tactical gameplay most of the time, VN style moral choices occasionally where you have to suss out if the aliens you're talking to are trying to screw you, goooold sympathizers or mini hitlers or something or if they could be good partners.
These segments can devolve back into XCom tactical gameplay as you scramble off world again
Similar minigame with random unscheduled offworld connections to your base and whether to seal the iris or not
Maybe your base is cut off at some point and you end up having to scrounge alien tech to supplement your P90 armoury
Cute Carter knockoff leads your R&D division

Stargate by nature is ill-suited for a combat-gameplay, and it requires a creative approach that very costly in development, reusing very little.

It's an episodic show where most episode approach a new SF concept, in aliens environment or 50% green forest.
Many plots don't require combat and are often just characters social interactions with bizarre civilization or technology they don't understand.
Most adventures require switching between multiple characters to understand what's happening, and the narrative suspense come from character(s) ignoring event that elsewhere. This, would go against player agenda and relative omniscience.

As gameplay goes, such game would require to talk a lot to make the plot move, or play minigame using alien-tech.
As combat goes, go'uld aren't especially original. Neither are Replicators, and making new aliens for a single map is costly.

Besides, we all know Womhole-x-treme is the real shit.

The hype for Stargate died by the '10s, which consequently is around the time we had some more scifi-ish games going like the Mass Effect series.
Now that we've got an upcoming Expanse game, Exodus, an untitled (supposed) Mass Effect "4", and even the rest of the sci fi sloppa as of recent such as Starfield and Star Wars Outlaws, there'd be almost no reason for an SG1 game not to exist - if the series still had any hype around it, that is. It's been too long since it aired to the point that only 30+ year old boomers would even understand what the game's about.
An RPG with a Cheyenne mountain/spaceship hub world and different areas locked behind "gate codes" would be pretty cool thoughbeit.

Not completely disagreeing with you but... trying to convert the sheer sophistication of those fight into gameplay would be very costly.
And we are not talking of going full Open-world crazy.
Most of the ground battle are small squad battle, rarely giant battleground unless you are crying goodbye to a beloved medic.
If you want to involve spaceship you either make a whole spacefighter minigame, or you fight inside the corridors or a giant space.

>battlefield/battlefront
Stargate setting is pretty bad for large battle with a constant stream of cannon fodder. It can also barely afford vehicular gameplay.

Honestly, yes.
It absolutely lasted for too long. I'd say they should have stopped at Season 6.
I can applaud the attempt to switch to a different kind of SF tropes with Atlantis (much more isolated) but it was already stretching too far.

Sometimes, you need to accept the setting is overcrowded or no longer shaped right for cool adventure.

>How about an Outer Wilds type of game of discovering things with only occasional need to fight. Progress limited by what chevrons you know
What you describe would still be very costly, you need each planet to have a minimum of content locally.

At most I could imagine a plot like this
SG-base => planet => discovers new coordinate => need to go back and force to previously discovered planet to talk to NPC and solve stuff.
Then you'd have "trouble" like Go'uld using the gates so you need to fight them there, or needing to contact the Asgard from another planet and convince them to help, fetch quests.
It would involve making a big change with factions who are already using the gates themselves to commerce.

Outer Wilds is a VERY peculiar setting, it rely on moving around a lot and not needing dialogues.

>Hell, you could even take the time loop episode as the base for that game.
Way to go completely wacko.
As said above, it would not be suited with talking to people to gather information.

Giving mankind proper warship was the mistake.

What would suit more the "infantry + airforce" vibe would have been a glorified landing ship with stealth-cloak.
Only gaining the ability to land far away from gates.
And as a late story ship: a fragile aircraft-carrier, avoiding combat while the spacefighter do trench runs and landing ships do rescue mission.

Hell, I had a ridiculously cool idea to have the Russian participate.
Make them modify a SUBMARINE into a hovering spaceship, and make an episode about them going back underwater on an alien planet to kill enemy spaceship submarine-style.

It was interesting it was also going to add canon plot details as well. One that we know about was going to be the caretaker race expansion. The 4 races were going to have all spawned their own planned successors. The Ancients created Humans, the Furlings created the Goa'uld, the Nox didn't have one at the time of the games cancellation, and the Asgard created the Solacris, a mechanical life form that eventually caused the plague that nearly killed the Ancients, which lead to their Ascension for survival and ended the Alliance of the Four Races.

>I could have liked an argument, but ok.
I honestly consider the argument I DID give was more than enough to understand the problem.

In Outer Wild the time-loop work because you don't need to talk to peoples, and it's ok to relive the same event because the star system is extremely creative with time based mechanic easy to exploit with spaceship. The whole plot is also to accept death and leave it all behind

In a Stargate setting, you need a lot of discussion, you wouldn't appreciate all your hard-work (diplomacy or combat alike) to reset as if nothing happened. If the loop is very short you wouldn't have the time to end-up with events like this webm.
Finally, travel time to areas is literally gated, then you can only walk.

So best I give you:
HUB design with SG-base to resupply rarely, shit happening locking the gate or making you lose the gimmick to open the Iris.
A need to travel between a few planets to gather information, do local quests, get help

etc

It wasn't static at all.
And giving them a full-fledged warship is the bad kind of power creep. It also completely changed the dynamic into something StarGATE isn't suited for: pretending to be Startrek.

What would have helped would have been smaller spaceship doing commando stuff they couldn't do when limited to the gates. Like being blocked by the Go'uld also setting up their own ways to block the gate, which prevent the UAV + Missile solution.
Requiring commando operation to C4 their generator from the other side.

One memorable episode was the one where they use a small ship to reprogram a space-mine to sabotage a go'uld meeting.

In a slut for Stargate but I struggle to think of a good blend that fits the universe. Obviously, travel through the wormhole will be a loading screen.
Third person squared shooter? Custom gear and loadouts? Stat growth or equipment found on other worlds? How many worlds are there? It'd be lame as fuck if there were like 9 fully fleshed out planets. Many planets with smaller yet intricate maps? What about the arsenal? P90s are cool but I got a get some staff action.
Lots of possibilities here, I think figuring out what style works best. I don't want XCOM, but I don't want The Division either. And can't forget, the whole point of the Stargate program is exploration, got a make that worthwhile.

Correct, however there is very little overlap between their two narratives.

There's only one genuine crossover episode. 'Letters from Pegasus' in Season 10 of SG-1 where the team visits Atlantis. Takes place somewhere near the start of Atlantis Season 3 based on dialogue.

9 planets can be a fucking lot if you move far from the gate, and have more variety than what they could afford with their budget.

Like:
1) SG-base
2) mandatory desert with pyramid and Egyptian city, may attract go'uld later
3) mandatory green forest/mountain with a celtic village, hiding those Asgard enigma
4) inhospitable mushroom planet you need to explore because of some machine on it
5) go'uld controlled mining world, that's not a green forest, with mines and go'uld stuff to put C4 on
6) Tokra controlled world 90% tunnels, beware go'uld bomb strike
7) a go'uld mothership to drop grenade in
8) a world with a technological civilization you need to convince to accept refugee and fight against go'uld
9) totally alien world with a what-the-fuck enigma you barely survive, then need to exploit

This, once Flanigan and Hewlett really established their roles and really get into character they got really passionate about the series overall similarly with SG1 cast. Flanigan gets so invested that he wanted to buy the rights so that they could finish Atlantis properly when MGM went bankrupt, and he originally hated the idea of being in a sci-fi series.

A desert on a distant world
Is where the soldiers met.
The Jaffa bore three marks, in gold:
Apophis, Horus, Set.

The line was drawn. The scene was tense.
The air was rich with fear.
Each Jaffa waited for a sign
That only he could hear.

The Serpent guard, while they were paused,
Lit up his eyes with red.
To terrify the other two
Though nothing had been said.

The Horus guard was not so cowed,
And caused his beak to shine
To show the other two that he
Wore armor tough and fine.

The Setesh guard was overwhelmed
And could not get a grip.
And in his fear, he panicked and
His nose began to drip.

This epic tale, by the Jaffa,
Was long thereafter spoke.
Setesh was mocked for it for years
(I trust you see the joke.)
