It seems like they all have the same few problems. Bad gameplay, bad story, Chinglish, unfinished/abandoned early access, and many other issues. They are all seemingly made in east asia, and it shows. Anime writing, anime dialogue, weird translation issues, recognizably east asian fetishes (tons of loli, gore, ugly bastard and much less lesbian stuff). This is down to personal taste, but if i have to read "fufufufufu" one more fu-fu-fucking time I'm gonna have an aneurysm.

I would be down for a good game with good gameplay that has sexual elements, even pretty heavy and extreme sexual elements, but the base gameplay needs to be there, otherwise why bother? I think adult modding probably has the most potential here, but I always spend at least 10x more time finding, downloading, and troubleshooting the mods than actually playing the game, and that assumes that it even works by the time I finish (looking at you, skyrim).

Anyways, if anyone has recommendations for games feel free to leave a review or add to the discussion.

Kamidori + Amayui. Really solid SRPGs, the first H-scenes appear like 15 hours in and yet people get hooked on the games even before that. The writing is very anime though.
MGQ:P. Pure autism of a game with 200+ different jobs (games like Octopath 2 only have like 12) and just as many races. The H-scenes are vile and the writing is shit.
Sengoku Rance. I could never get into it, but others swear by its gameplay. Hilarious H-scenes, more of a comedy game.
Black Souls. The first 10 hours of the first game (which is 11 hours long in total) are bad on purpose. Then you get to the ending, which is amazing and one of the most memorable ones in vidya. BS2 picks up from there and also makes gameplay+exploration a lot more fun, the world is heavily interconnected like in Dark Souls 1 or Hollow Knight.
Baldr Sky. The first few hours of gameplay feel bad because of how limited your moves are. The VN part also sucks because of constant flashbacks to the droll school arc. Once you unlock more moves, the gameplay is amazing. I like it almost as much as the DMC games.

Here's my brief review of LonaRPG in case others have more tolerance for some of my gripes than me.

First off let me deal with the bad. The english translation leaves a lot to be desired. You pretty much need to use the wiki to play this game. Lots of piss and vomit fetish stuff (you can mercifully turn it off). Very ugly-bastard NPC design, lotta hair and the bandits who rape you in an alleyway generally look like they haven't bathed in a month. TOO MANY MEN. This is personal preference, but why would I want my PC to get raped by men when they could be abused by someone with nice tits? Some of the enemies are nigh-guaranteed game-overs or softlocks, especially if you don't read the wiki. You can run into them simply by being captured on the streets of the main "safe" town, so they aren't even mid- or late-game exclusives.

Onto the good. The gameplay is genuinely quite good, the combat feels nice and fluid, and is reasonably challenging. The survival mechanics are simple enough but still are very useful while traveling. The game is permadeath, although most "deaths" simply result in slavery.

All in all, I could only get through a couple of play sessions before uninstalling the game, but it seems like the best out there at the moment? I wish the RPG mechanics were better/more extensive, and the sexual encounters more varied, but it could be worth a play if you're into this kind of thing.

Popular WEGs have much less of the things you complained about. Most of them are inline with modern porn standards. Vanilla, or Vanilla+ with light elements of things like incest/bdsm etc. Nothing too crazy.

The problem with that thread is that 90% of the games mentioned there are Ren'py engine games. Aka, the horrific plastic porn goblins you see meme'd about. Heads Will Roll is a pretty awesome medieval rpg, almost like an indie kingdom come deliverance. Very good for multiple playthroughs, you can branch off into radically different storylines.

I would heavily advice against playing h games.
My friend was once playtesting an unreleased h game, when a tentacle with a phallic tip reached out of the screen, grabbed him and pulled him inside into the game world. I really like Superhuman, but similar to Lona I don't care for the porn, in this case because of poor quality art rather than revulsion. It's peak chuunige, and does Cape shit better than comics have done in decades. Really well written fight scenes too, with fantastic variation in how the MC stacks up against various opponents instead of bland shonenshit "job until you power up" tropes (though you do get one moment like that, early on). It also has strong side characters, not just as people but on combat, rather than the MC having all the spotlight.

The art can be very rough, though I do like the monster designs.

Lilith's Throne has a solid foundation but very little content and the writing is very amateurish.

Yes, it's memed a lot in /hgg2d/, but could I present to you Pronant Symphony. It's one of those rare male MC games involving mind control where to get the True End of the game, you can't abuse the mind control powers of Pronant (which were forcefully given to people at random that drastically reduces their lifespan as a consequence by a demon), nor can you choose the more drastic options like killing or raping NPCs (randoms via Pronant or in certain events). In other words, to achieve the True End, you must avoid getting any sex scenes at all.

Otherwise if you want a fake Persona 4 game, there is Kozue's Strange Journey 1. It's also available on Steam (but requires a VPN to see on DLSite because the main characters are all female highschoolers). It's actually pretty decent and you can clear it without engaging in any of the h content if you want, with a CG/Scene Gallery unlocker obtainable in-game. It's also one of the rare h-games with a menstruation system that is a bit more varying beyond simply 'Safe' and 'Dangerous' days, with a limited pregnancy system as well.

That said, I am considered a deviant to most h-game playing people. I am the sort of person that loves playing h-games where a virgin clear is possible, especially if it's a female MC game. I personally see it as a challenge to do, and to be able to tell whether there's any 'game' in the 'h-game', or whether it's ultimately a CG collector game where you're supposed to just trigger all the scenes by looking for heart icons or deliberately lose in battle. I enjoy playing h-games while avoiding the porn.
