the dialogue isn't that specific about it, it just says that people's selfies are corrupted and look weird implying it's a global phenomena with digital devices whether or not it's an image of the outside. the hoax thing isn't even a part of the dialogue at all.

Ignoring his terrible accent/speech pattern, i mostly agree with the ideas inside and its more or less consistent with the NPCs. Theoretically its not about being exposed to Visitor light its purely about witnessing It and It's effects, you could walk straight up to a window and be fine if you were blindfolded (and nothing insane outside ate you).

Digital gets corrupt its why people can still post on social media. A large quantity of people heeded warnings and got lucky with overcast days so they managed to get inside somewhere and just try to wait it out. Issue is that i doubt most people stock 2 weeks of provisions in their home even assuming they keep power and water. And i live in a fucking hurricane area where they should and still panic rush publix every season
