>game has eIemental damage
>fire is the strongest
>>712606438 (OP)Why is fire the jobber element 99% of the time? It's insanely rare to actually see it be presented like a true force of nature
>has fire and lightning powers
>>712606438 (OP)why is earth considered the weakest in most games when its by far the most powerful
>>712606663In cartoons? Because you can't really show people being horribly burned alive and even glancing blows would have their clothes/armor melting into their skin.
You can wave off people getting hit with water/air/earth pretty easily without getting too gruesome, but you can't really show the full effects of fire burning someone in a kid's show.
>>712606438 (OP)Why can fire benders channel lightning anyways? Why can't water benders control water that's in the air?
>>712606663Because fire is a chemical reaction. Water is everywhere in the air and in living organisms, air/oxygen is obviously everywhere as is the earth you stand on. in ATLA an airbender can just take away all the oxygen out of a room which is how Gyatso killed dozens of fire nation soldiers hopped up on comet steroids. A waterbender can just snuff out the fire or bloodbend and an Earthbender can disrupt the footing or chuck a big ass rock at a firebender. For this reason its why the Fire Nation is a stand-in for Imperial Japan and shit on the other nations tech wise.
>>712606945because firebending is just channeling very high levels of energy. in that aspect lightning is just advanced fire.
and iirc some waterbenders could use humidity
>>712606663to my knowledge nobody has quite yet figured out how to make fire feel strong without it also being super gory
>>712606663because it's just hot.
wind can be hot or cold
and earth and water have a lot more going for them
>>712606945I was thinking Water benders could legit make the most powerful swords by making the water sharp from pressure into a waterjet
>>712607135>>712606663>>712606850In terms of Avatar, pretty much these. Can't show people being burned alive or in agony as their flesh is seared, so even when someone gets hit by a direct blast of fire it just knocks them off their feet like it was hot air.
Hell, in Korra with Lavabending there were multiple times where the characters just stood around lava like it was nothing.
im just saying if I had fire powers I wouldn't be nice about it
>>712606438 (OP)>game has elemental damage>it's all the same
Choose your water tribe gf
>>712606945when aang and gang were in the desert katara got water from the sky
Water was the most OP wtf. Heal People, Control their blood, Later on you could take their bending by blocking their blood.
>no bending powers
>still the most chad character in all of Avatar
>>712607536Katara, such an easy choice it's not even funny. 4 of those brownies I don't even recognize, but I've never read the comics and I haven't watched the show in about a decade.
>>712607676Bloodbending needs the full moon and unique training, Legend of Korra just had a few freaks of nature that could just do it whenever.
>>712606438 (OP)Since waterbender can use bloodbending during full moon, why don't firebender can use the power of sun? Like bending the sunlight and focusing it to become a high precision laser cannon aka sunstrike.
>>712607536I grew up in alaska I wouldn't want any water tribe girls
>>712606438 (OP)how do I find a dominant girlfriend like this who actually cares about me
>>712606438 (OP)>Evil bitch, wins season 2 and doesn't get redeemed by the end of the series.>Voiced by Grey Delisle. This character is peak evil women.
>>712606850>>712607380Really it applies to all the elements, they're WAY more deadly than they're depicted.
Earthbending for one should easily be horrific, a normal human can kill someone by tossing a rock, earthbenders are slinging around enough force to dismember people, rip all their skin off with sand, crush them into pancakes, etc...
All those delta P videos you've seen about guys sucked through inch wide holes aren't caused by water, they're AIR pressure, which means an airbender in a sealed room is unbelievably deadly, there's realistically nothing you could do to escape from a weaponized implosion.
water is somehow a combination of both of them but even more deadly
and fire doesn't even need to be mentioned
It makes some degree of sense that benders can sort of defend themselves against other benders, but realistically it's like a sword fight, one wrong move and you're fucking dead instantly. Non benders are lucky if they're in the same room as a bender fight and live long enough to jump out a window and run away
>website has video game board
>people make threads about cartoons on it
>>712608212realistically there's no reason earthbenders can't control glass and quartz
Firecest is the only good shipping of this show and fandom.
>>712607536gnsisir's Katara
>>712608593They only make them here because they don't want to talk to the same crop of /co/cksuckers that have every detail memorized.
Toph's shoulders are pure sex
>>712608916>thread improved
Reminder that you can't fix Azula and any attempt in doing so will just result in her hating you and possibly killing you for it
>>712608560I think it helps that most benders can't do any of what you mentioned and that ATLA humans are alot more durable than normal ones. Although it is funny watching Katara slice metal or boulders and later use the same attack and it just knocks away a generic mook.
What's the strongest element?
>old man gets a boss fight
Air was the strongest
if avatarfd is realed id be a blood bender aned be stronger then all of u combinered
>>712606945Uncle Iroh literally explains that he got is lightning channeling ability through studying waterbenders, there are characters advanced enough who can pull the water from plants, or sweat, or manipulate the water in a person's body, and then in the (not as good) second show heaps of characters gained abilities which blurred the lines between the elements. It's just the that the main four are basic disciplines.
Where are the cute brown jungle girls?
>>712608212Them using the power of a comet was literally the whole plot of the show my man.
>>712609096On an individual level, waterbending. On a large scale, earthbending.

>Water creates literal spears of ice and freezing water instantly, trapping people in their place or defending themselves, not to mention bloodbending being inherently broken>Air creates tempests and storms that can destroy the land, or blow any fire away with a single gust>Earth literally cracks the earth, hurls massive 200-1000kg boulders, or flicks pebbles like a snipershot, is capable controlling even sand, iron, steel and mud, being able to bury people alive before they even notice a quakeThat show genuinely ruined fire for me, I almost never go firemagic in any RPG or MMO anymore

>Lightning is just an edgelords fire, doing more damage but no DoT and less imaginative abilities (IE: the ever present chain ligthning or generic thunderbolt)>Dark is just oversaturated purple, focusing on debuffs like blind and stat nerfing curses>Light is, of course, buffs and healing, with the obligatory one or two damage abilities just so they don't feel like an absolute garbage experience for solo leveling

>>712609021Pregnancy works.
>>712610680>>712610312Lightning is high variance. If a fireball deals 40-60 damage and a DoT, a lightning bolt deals 1-100.

>water gets ice bending and blood bending

So which element is realistically the strongest? Air? How could someone defeat an opponent that could literally just suck the air out of their lungs or make their head explode?
>>712611063people were posting frogs here before you got groomed to cut your dick off
>>712611064Fire has lightning and combustion
>>712606438 (OP)She fucks her brother btw
>>712608560>>712609035Yeah, for Avatar you can kind of excuse the durability of people since the rest of the universe is also running on "magical kung fu" logic. Even non-benders are shown to be very skilled and athletic and able to do stuff that no humans in real life could do.
>>712607536Korra's mom is such a babe
>>712611064Fire should be literally pure form of energy and be able to easily melt and vaporize water, consume air and even go around metal/lava since those does absorb heat and in sense should melt. Avatar is just too retarded to balance the classes and how difficulty they can be.
>>712611103>election touristYou are brown.
>>712606438 (OP)It's amazing how every single thing to follow the original cartoon, sequels/movies/live action/comics/games, are all complete and utter garbage
It's honestly impressive. Even Sonic gets a good thing every now and then. Avatar hasn't had anything since 2008

>>712611258>more tranny newfag projectionHere's how this will play out. You will look at these objective statistics, seethe and dilate, and reply with some irrelevant ad hom repetition because you have no arguments. Kill yourself (sooner) tranny.
>>712606945Water benders can do that. All of the bending styles have exquisite expressions of the skill that come only with true spiritual enlightenment and understanding of the element's philosophy. Or perversions of that philosophy.
Fire has lightning bending when you are able to basically be a psycho and detach the emotions you use to bend fire from yourself. Earth has metal bending when you're able to truly understand how the physical earth permeates the entire world. Water has bloodbending to abuse the nurturing and life-giving aspects of water. And air doesn't have much expressed in the original series but you get hints of stuff like true flight and suffocating people when you have that clear, spiritual understanding of the world around you.
And then they fuck it up and have everybody bend lightning and metal in the sequel as professions because they didn't understand the spirituality of their own world.

There's plenty of one hit wonders but it's rare that the creators then go on to make absolute garbage again and again and again and come nowhere near the quality of their fluke.

Always funny how people go on and on about this show, when it's just Samurai Jack level slop. The entire point of the series is Aang becoming a man and killing the fire lord. Instead of doing that, the show introduces a deux ex machina level asspull at the 11th hour so he can maintain his retarded innocence because 'oh no we can't show anyone dying in a children's show!'.
This is exceedingly comical because the art style draws obvious comparisons to anime, where characters die constantly, because somehow Japanese kids can handle Detective Conan investigating a new murder every week, but western kids can't handle the protagonist of a show killing the bad guy at the end.
The girls are hot, that's about the only nice thing I can say about the show. Couldn't be made today, they'd all be fat and disabled.

>>712623010>the show introduces a deux ex machina level asspull at the 11th hour so he can maintain his retarded innocence because 'oh no we can't show anyone dying in a children's show!'.valid criticism, but the show is more about the journey than the final destination, even if energy bending is something of an asspull, it's one blemish on an otherwise very well done show, and there are so many memorable scenarios that make this show larger than life. >>712623161I didn't find the journey very compelling. There's one decent moment in the whole show, and that's Iroh being sad about his dead son. The rest is just "we have to move the plot along!" writing with a host of characters nobody really remembers.

>>712625197what are you talking about?
the earth kingdom is more than its capital, the fire nation spread out far through its territory.
the southern water tribe was basically already under its control and they almost crushed the nothern water tribe.
They were pretty close to winning it all and just stalled for both the solar eclipse to pass and Sozin's comet to arrive.
Though its not very clear what they did for most of the 100 years, maybe the war didn't escalate right after wiping the airbenders. I'm not sure if it was explained why they targeted them first, other then to show off how evil they are.
Maybe air bender can make someone suffocate from a distance or something that worried them, despite being pacifists.

>>712625693yeah but cult leaders irl aren't villains in some storybook narrative, they're just retarded. introducing a character and pulling shit out of your ass because of whatever stupid ass excuse is a gigantic sin of writing. maybe
>>712625590 is right and they had constraints, but that's hardly an excuse to write a shit character.
then again, the main problem is the entire premise of korra. aang's story worked so well because of the framing; you had an overarching goal, but you also had life on a day to day basis, which was shown in each episode, as the kids traveled the world in pursuit of their goals. making korra the superhero of some city, in which she is stationary in that setting for most of the show was a huge mistake, but then I can't see how they would have come up with anything better. maybe they shouldn't have even had a sequel if they were going to half ass it.
>>712624650>>712625436he literally only lost to korra because she was so shit at learning that she didn't yet know airbending enough for him to take it away from her, such a bullshit way to beat the villain
>>712625054Also, aside from them just being the most advanced, fire is by far the most deadly element relative to its skill floor. The average fire nation soldier that can throw a fireball already has the means to outright kill or maim someone in one unlucky shot, and they don't have to have their element on-hand unlike everyone else that isn't an airbender, on top of fire being an environmental hazard and being capable of spreading out of control with one ignition. It's like giving someone a loaded gun without a safety.
>>712625436The funniest shit about Amon is that the writers realized they made him be too right, so they had to scramble to somehow make him wrong, by dialing up his cartoonish evil, making him kill himself, and then never again addressing any of the completely valid and real points his movement raised.

Her upbringing in the vipers nest of the court has made her very aware of what happens to people who aren't sufficiently feared and respected, and her breakdown is who she is when nobody's afraid of her and she believes she doesn't have daddy's full backing anymore. spirits and the spirit world were far more interesting when they were a separate, mysterious thing that not everyone was aware of and it had a lot of significance when someone went into the spirit world, same with just giving everyone shit like lightningbending
Do we have any hopes for the new series with the new twin earthbender avatars?
Apparently it's a post apocalyptic setting because Korra fucked up and the spirits nuked the world or something.

if blooddending doesn't work on the avatar state period then amon has no chance, but i don't think that''s the case, i think the avatar state more just resets the avatar's current condition, like a max heal and debuff cleanse when transforming, not a permanent immunity to it, but i dunno

>>712627571the point of bringing it up is that the show could have done more to explore these themes instead of the shenanigans they pulled with his character. as a real world analogy, and whether you like it or not, there are concerns regarding the proliferation and accessibility of firearms among a civilian population. however you feel about it, the pros and cons can be sufficiently explored and nuances can be posited for audience consideration. only shit writers take a side. look at fallout new vegas; it's the kind of game whose various factions and philosophies can be discussed ad nauseam, which is a hallmark of good writing.
>>712627353I honestly prefer it over the kill route, it would've obviously worked much better if energybending was set up properly (like they discover some book about it in the library where they found the illustration of the lion turtle).
Aang killing Ozai would've been more logical but the emotional payoff wouldn't have been as good. The writers messed up by kicking the "how to defeat the firelord" can down the road until it was too late.

>>712627571you can be for or against equality, but you know that the mainstream opinion is for equality.
That's why I said its more about the Avatar party being wrong. Korra completely failed to argue against that movements, benders (including her) were just afraid that someone took away their toys.
>>712627745What the show could have done doesn't really matter because they didn't do that. I want to know how Amon WAS right, not how better writers could have changed it so that he would be right
>>712627574>Ty Lee in the beach episodeI legitimately think they forgot the characters are supposed to be in their early teens during that episode
>>712627886>Korra completely failed to argue against that movementAnd that's the worst part. The movement raised some valid points, there was a definite pro-bender bias, and benders had such a monopoly on violence that equality with non-benders is pretty much impossible to achieve without some equalizing factor (hence the faction name). And the writers realized this, so they just focused on how bad and evil Amon is, really cranking up the irredeemable asshole angle, so the heroes could beat him up without ever addressing the underlying issues that caused his movement to pick up momentum and grow as large as it did, and then those issues were quietly ignored forever.
>>712624650>second boss in the game>drops the game
>>712627865He was in like 4 episodes and his final episode was near the end of the last season
The only thing that bothered me in the whole show was that the Avatar objectively does not need to master all 4 elements in order to defeat the adversary of that era. Just blowing some extra strong avatar wind or one of the other elements amplified to extreme levels seems to do the job every time.
What the fuck was his problem
>>712628252Generally speaking, it's not really the Avatar's duty to go around beating up supervillains. It's to serve as the bridge between the nations and to the spirit world, which is achieved by the avatar immersing themselves in all of them. AtLA makes a big deal of how each element is harnessed by thinking in certain ways, and tapping into the philosophy of the people using it. Aang struggles with earthbending primarily because he struggles to get into the mindset of an earthbender.
Mastering the four elements is really just a way to become a native of the four nations, to fully understand the way they think, and thus serve as a catalyst for balance between them.

>>712627895>want to know how Amon WAS rightok, well the point of bringing up the bad writing is to emphasize that questions like this have no answer, because amon was poorly written to be another mustache twirling antagonist who has no motivation or convictions beyond petty revenge against the avatar. there's nothing to discuss, because he had no beliefs, he's just the son of a crime lord who was slighted by the avatar, who posed as a revolutionary to goad the avatar into exposing herself so he could strike her while she's down, and when that failed he got unceremoniously wiped off the face of the earth.
it'd be like asking if ellie/abby from TLOU2 are "right or wrong" about whatever they do, which misses the point entirely, which is that endless killing and retaliating in a perpetual cycle of violence is pointless and solves nothing. amon is kid zuko without the character development.
>>712610680I like the idea of light magic in Warhammer, where it expunged darkness. It'll burn the dark part of your soul and you better hope you have enough left to survive by the end of it. Also lasers
>>712629414So how did the writers make him be too right if not only was he not right but the questions now have no real answer at all. It was claimed that he was right yet nothing about his philosophy is right.
>>712624757Ozai legitimately could
the speed at which he can just blast someone with lighting is enough that not even Amon could realistically stop him
>>712629641I think what other people were saying is that there's a more interesting direction the story could have went - the examination of how bending could be abused against non-benders, which extrapolated on creates problems for society at large - but it didn't, and amon's story inparticular left those questions unaddressed.
>>712629641Have you read the thread, anon? Inequality between benders and non-benders has been brought and explained up several times. And keep in mind that every single equalist was unaware of Amon's bad writing, so they joined up, studied anti-bender martial arts, and made the movement as big and effective as it was, because they believed in its merit. Even accounting for a portion of pure opportunists, that alone proves that Amon must've had a point.
>>712610183this is more a problem with how fire is really characterized, in traditional alchemy it was treated as a lot more of a lifegiving element since it fuels the entire art of chemistry for its warmth-giving properties and ability to create chemical change. if you view the sun as part of fire in the four elements, it's just as important as the others if not moreso, no life on earth could really exist without it. this is why any rpg that has a fire-themed healing class is based as fuck
>>712629785It's been brought up and explained and it's always been wrong. Benders are objectively better than non-benders and for that very reason every single non-bender in Republic City stands on the shoulders of the benders who make keeping the city running possible.
>>712630065I see, you have read the thread, and just don't understand how having a class of citizens with a monopoly on violence, industry, and thus opportunity is bad, got it.

>>712626904Yes but I'm still mad that he gave Toph boobs
>>712630065>Benders are objectively better than non-bendersWhile this is true the series isn't written in a way that takes this into account. Amon would've been right if the bender vs non-bender dynamics would've been written realistically but then we'd have something closer to pic related.
>>712630196They don't have a monopoly on any of that but either way it can just as easily be flipped to question why non-benders should even be allowed to live there if they're incapable of contributing to the systems that keep everything afloat and are just a bunch of freeloaders. I really don't see how anyone could argue that benders have a monopoly on industry and opportunity when the richest and most powerful leaders of industry in the world are non-benders.
>>712627528Yeah I also vaguely remember it happening that way but it didn't really feel cool at all was my point.
Meanwhile when they got ambushed the first time it went somewhere like
>Toph hears him and wakes everyone up>Aang immediately stops the first shot>Toph immediately counters with a giant attack>Katara follows up with a giant attack>Aang blocks another shot>Sokka stands there looking at the groundThen again maybe it's my shonenbrain, I definitely need to rewatch the show at some point.
>>712630342oyakodon was the best ending though
>>712630412>the richest and most powerful leaders of industry in the world are non-bendersAnd in the sentence immediately preceding that you were admitting that it takes benders to keep everything afloat while non-benders are just mooching off their betters. It's kind of funny how you're spouting pro-bender propaganda without a shred of irony or understanding why you're proving the equalists' point.
>>712630241I agree, I love the idea of a "wizard" who does a little bit of everything from a cultural/ideological perspective of balance, order and a general wide field of knowledge, and then specialists of other elements who perhaps treat it more like reverence of a specific element of the world or of magic and become more like it, like a pyromancer being impulsive and passionate, a hydromancer being creative and adaptive, etc.

Republic City could not function without benders, that's a fact. Anybody could have made it to the top and become wildly rich, it just so happens that it was some non-benders who did it. Where is the horrible classism keeping them from getting any opportunities there? Oh right, it doesn't exist.

>>712630981all we're saying is that the show would've been better had these points been explored and addressed. it's sad because amon is introduced as someone who might be the centrifugal force that pushes these issues to the forefront, but then turns out to be just another asshole looking for revenge. we're on the same page about that at least, right?
>>712631184>and inventorthis aspect is something that is WAY too overstated. He's a good idea man, but that's it. He "invented" exactly 2 things the entire series. A hatch to release hot air from a hot air balloon, which is cool I agree, but it's not like he actually invented the hot air balloon. In fact, I don't think he even invented the hatch, just the idea for it, but it's been awhile so I might be wrong. And other than that, he came up with an idea for a water-bender powered submarine. Not knocking him for having good ingenuity, just saying he had no technical know-how to do any of this
How do earthbenders not literally steamroll everything? They have the most sub-bendings that are also super strong, earth is everywhere, and most importantly that can basically trap almost anyone in earth by building walls around them or sinking them into the ground because the average person should not realistically be able to penetrate solid rock
>>712631619Not really, Amon turning out to be a charlatan doesn't change that the issues he raises aren't issues at all that would need pushing to the forefront in the first place. I'm not saying that he's wrong because of hypocrisy I'm saying he's wrong because he's just wrong.
>>712631847too busy motorboating joo dee
>>712625923>amon was rightAmon was never right. There was (IIRC) 2 instances where I'd say non-benders were oppressed.
1) Korra threatens to attack the equalist dude talking shit in the park because she didn't like what he had to say (that's Korra for you)
2) the police force impose lockdowns and curfews for non-benders due to the equalists
And that second one shouldn't even count since that only happened as a response to the equalists, who obviously oppose the oppression that was already happening.
All the "oppression" was off screen. That being said, they were pretty heavy handed in suggested the organized crime was the oppression, but that was never really expanded on because that's fucking retarded and under no circumstance is organized crime a kind of systemic oppression, especially since the people fighting the crime were the police force who were overwhelmingly benders.

>>712631847plus their most BASIC move is hurling a 2000 pound rock at your fucking head
Earthbending is lethal on a good day
>>712631847Probably Politics.
The "Earth Kingdom" is pretty splintered in practice so the Fire nation has been able to slowly take them one chunk at the time over the 100 years, the issue is that the clincher of the Fire Nations plan is getting Air Supremacy and burn everything from the air.
Keep in mind Azula basically conquered Ba Sing Se by rolling a Nat 20 on a Speech check, not by outfighting their elite Earthbenders, and that is not going in on how badly shit splinters in Korra when the Earth Queen dies.
>>712631882so you're saying you can't imagine a world in which these problems existed? the point is that amon's story had a set up with no payoff, partly because he was written poorly but also because the show didn't have the balls to explore the issues it implied exist, by trying to lean on them for the paper thin worldbuilding and character development they lent to amon as a character.
>>712631847Yeah earthbending should be insanely OP but it doesn't really play out that way in the show.
I always kind of had this headcanon that earthbending weakened the material that was being bent. Like if you manipulated a hunk of pure granite into some shape then by the end of it it would have the durability of tightly packed sand. Which honestly would still be really overpowered but if an earthbender encased you in it then you could realistically get out in some way. And of course they could always just sink you into the ground but no one ever did that.
>>712632326I could imagine a world in which they exist and I would need to because the world presented to me by the show did not have those issues
>>712609096Earthbending and it really isn't close. One of the reasons why the earth kingdom was so delusional was because they thought the fire king wasn't shit. Water and fire are only really good at one time of the year/day/event, and air is too complex.
>>712632326>so you're saying you don't believe these issues exist just because it was never explored and we never saw them and no one ever mentioned an example of it and it was also the central plot for the entire season??Yeah, pretty much

You can't just claim Amon was right because they said it's happening. If they don't show it happened and no one talks about it happening and no character was oppressed, I'm just going to assume Amon was an ego maniac who was ying and blowing shit out of proportion to gain control of stupid impressionable non-benders, which is much more in line with what actually happened. >>712632884collection of settlements is closer to the truth, but through Avatar Extras and supplementary material we learn that it's more like scattered settlements with the existence of proper townships and shit we're just never shown.
>>712632879part of writing a better show would have been taking the time to legitimize and/or disregard the equalists' mission statement by giving the audience a glimpse of the world outside of their perception of it. the point is that they failed to do that either way, and opted to instead avoid addressing whatever concerns the group had all together.
>>712633030yeah you can't just rest of the laurels of the show writers being retarded to justify how he was right.
>no no he was totally correct because he says so, it's just those darn writers hahaNo, he was incorrect and we have no reason to believe that non-benders were oppressed, besides the fact they claimed to be.
You're correct in that people who aren't retards would have and should have explored this, but they didn't, and that isn't evidence that it's happening in the background and is unexplored, it's just evidence that the writers suck. The only proper extrapolation of the show is that Amon is a manipulative faggot, not that there is some secret oppression that's happening that proves him right. Even if there were, if it was so fucking down low that no one can prove it or give examples, then it's not a big enough deal to overthrow Republic City for
>>712610680what is wind then?
>>712631847>Soil>Mud>Rock>Sand>Magma>Metal>Minerals (Gemstones, etc)>ClayEarth is one of my favorite elements in a game because of how much you can do with it. I also like that Pokemon broke Earth into three types.
>>712606709Because of course people find it coolest so most enemies will be resistant to it to balance gameplay.
>>712633232>it's just evidence that the writers suckright, that's the point I've been making. again, amon wasn't "right" or "wrong" about anything because he had no convictions. his is a simple story of revenge that gets very quickly wrapped up because the writing was weak and it's a shame.
>>712633478>amon wasn't "right"wasn't the original post that started the whole shebang either you or someone you're arguing on the side of claiming Amon was "writers made him too right?"
>>712633478>amon wasn't "right" or "wrong" about anythingThat's a strange stance to take in a conversation about finding out why he was supposedly so right
>>712633565>>712633595semantics, whoever said that was clearly making the point that there existed people in the world who believed enough in amon's alleged messaging, which on its own implies some validity to the concerns of the group as a whole. they're clearly not explored in the show, which is part of pointing out why the writing is shit. the group itself has no depth, as you've been saying. your whole point was
>we've never seen this alleged conflict between benders and non benders, so it doesn't existyeah, no shit, but you've never seen the opposite, either. you can just write off the entire group as batshit crazy, but that's never any more established than the opposite, that their concerns are legitimate.
>>712633782We've not just never seen the conflict, we have seen evidence contrary to their claims of being an underclass.
>>712624650Do you actually think he would beat the Giant Dark Avatar Kaiju?
>>712633952no we have not. for every example you bring up, there are equally valid interpretations for why bending is a catastrophic and irresponsible ability to allow to go unchecked. a stupid ass example from the first series is the cabbage cart guy. the recurring gag is that because of the group's exploits his cabbage stand is repeatedly destroyed. isn't damage to public property funny? isn't it hilarious to watch a small business owner suffer catastrophic loss because of the misuse of magical abilities at the hands of some mutant kids? for an example in korra - the triple triad exists and wreaks havoc on the population, muscling shopkeepers to pay "protection money" as extortion, and they do this explicitly through the use of their bending; and it was already pointed out that korra's actions in fighting against them could be interpreted as vigilantism gone amok.
so what do you have that shows the contrary? that the city runs on bending? not all of it. maybe some sectors of industry, that much is certain, but how is that a point in your favor? how does that dismiss the concerns of bending being used irresponsibly?
>>712634209Just use his famous energybending on it
>>712634423>not all of ityeah all of it one of the big complaints people had for that shite was that lightning became wagie tier because it powers the city
>>712633782>semanticsactually it was the core point of the argument
>whoever said that was clearly making the point that there existed people in the world who believed enough in amon's alleged messaging, which on its own implies some validity to the concerns of the group as a whole>clearlylol
Also, no it doesn't. All it implies is that he convinced people. This is a weird hill to die on considering we have 1000 different people claiming to be oppressed with no fucking proof in the real world.
>yeah, no shit, but you've never seen the opposite, either.Yes we have.
Team Avatar is entirely built of benders and all their allies besides Asami are benders, and defend the world. Sato Industries and Varrick Industries are some of the most affluent businesses in the world, meaning non-benders aren't just shut out, the public security sector is almost entirely composed of benders, Republic City is the most diverse and advanced nation on the planet except Zaofu, and it is kept running almost entirely on the backs of benders, and even the entertainment is made from benders in the form of Pro Bending, which as an aside they try and paint as a bad thing since non-benders can't play but that'd be like me complaining I can't get into the NBA since I'm not a legal giant. Biological differences aren't oppression.
Every facet of a non-benders life is held up and propagated on the backs of benders. So not only have we not seen or heard any specifics about any oppression of non-benders, every part of the shows world building shows us the exact opposite and that benders are a complete net positive to all societies.
>>712634423>the misuse of magical abilities at the hands of some mutant kids?their powers aren't (usually) misused, the cabbage cart is usually destroyed by villains or by the gaang and they're running away from villains (and it's important that they get away so they can save the planet)
and the cabbage merchant becomes a billionaire magnate so I think he can get over it
>organized crimeStill not oppression, that's be like saying New York was oppressed by Italians in the 40's because of the mob. Besides it's doubly retarded, because who saves the non-benders from the evil gangs? The avatar and the police. Who are benders.
>But korra stopping them was vigilantismSo the people supporting the equalists and seeing the gangs going around hurting and extorting people don't support Korra because she operates outside of the law? That's a retarded argument even for you
>bending isn't used responsiblyYeah, sometimes it's not, but it's also used to make almost everything run, so good with the bad here. Still doesn't give any points whatsoever to bending oppression
>>712634710I'm not dying on any hill, and I acknowledge the points you've made about bending being a net positive for society. on top of that, you're right in saying that life in republic city appears to be prosperous, all of that is supposed to suggest that there's no validity at all to the equalists objectives and they're all just a bunch of crazy cultists? I shouldn't have to point out as a rebuttal that a veneer of prosperity can exist alongside a darker and more sinister side of the city's seedy underbelly. that's the point in showing nuance, no? are you saying that the city is perfect without any crime whatsoever? well the show establishes that that's wrong. are you saying that there are no people at all in the city who harbor feelings of "bending supremacy" against filthy subhuman non-benders? we just don't know.
I don't think anyone's saying there is some ironclad oppressive regime of benders ruling over the poor and pathetic non-benders like a nazi germany equivalent or some shit, on a governmental level. just that social/political tensions between the groups could potentially exist in this world. why wouldn't they, if amon's sentiment is so readily adopted by some rather not-insignificant portion of the population? because everyone's a cultist, right?
>>712634446Didn't save him against Korra. If he can't beat Korra then he can't beat the Giant Dark Spirit Kaiju. Even Korra had to become a powered up Kaiju to fight it. Also I'm pretty sure he'd be too big for him to effect, he'd probably be able to bend one of their legs or an army at best, assuming it even works on a spiritual being who might not even have blood anymore.
>>712606663This is also in real life, I can not find many videos of real fire just burning stuff, especially longer ones. Probably too traumatic, and too easy to encourage pyromaniacs. They're all over the place in movies though.
I never finished Korra because 1st season dropped the ball with Amon but I heard she gets tortured later so maybe it's worth just to see the bitch suffering.
>>712635451>I shouldn't have to point out as a rebuttal that a veneer of prosperity can exist alongside a darker and more sinister side of the city's seedy underbellywell, when we're not shown any real dark presence of, even through Bolin and Mako who are members of said underbelly, and the darkest shit you have are organized crime that benders are actively trying to stop + the equalists themselves, then yes, I would disregard basically everything he says.
>you say it's perfect with no crime?not only did I not say or suggest that, I said the exact opposite, only that all this "non-bender oppression" is being fought almost exclusively by benders for non-bending benefit.
>are you saying that there are no people at all in the city who harbor feelings of "bending supremacy" against filthy subhuman non-benders? we just don't know. There absolutely are, but for an entire movement to come out and try and basically cripple an entire classification of people, it needs to be much less fringe and more systemic or else they all come off as fucking psychos, which is exactly what happened. Some random dude on the street calling you a faggot isn't oppression. If it's not happening from some position of actual power, and we've been show very clearly it's not, then it's not oppression.
>I don't think anyone's saying there is some ironclad oppressive regime of benders ruling over the poor and pathetic non-bendersAmon did, literally the point of his entire organization
>tensions MIGHT existSURE, but the only tension we're ever shown is just them freaking out about it. This is the only point where dogshit writing is a passable excuse. But considering how little we see of it and how we never see any of it past playful jabs amongst friends in the entire first series, I don't think being mean to non-benders is a very culturally significant issue
