Can recommend the Slumhack demo. It's another cute puzzle game in the vein of MotionRec, Theta and Paralldox, Ooo etc. It reminds me somewhat of Grooveyard but this time you place the direction keys and the character follows along.
Protagonist is a human shota helped by a robot/AI oneesan too. So a good game for the anons seeking cute boys.

I'm trying possessors and I literally cannot get past the intro segment where you need to whip three times because I can't get enough distance. I am losing my fucking mind because it takes a full fucking minute to retry this since you need to go through four rooms to get back and the whip sometimes just doesn't go out in the direction that I want it to.
Has anyone here played this demo because I have no fucking idea if the minute+ runback is intentional or if there was some unexplained mechanic about the whip, it's been 15 minutes at this shit

This game was 10/10. Oh man. The protagonist tried his hardest to whine about everything and get the point across that his life was dismal.
But I was enthralled. Everything was perfect for me. The environment described was hell for the game dev, but I would love nothing more than to live in the desolate wasteland he described. I've been trying to get hired up in the North for a while, because I know I don't like being around people. But I might have to increase my efforts.
There was this whole part where he goes to a dreary job where nothing he does matters, which is even better. Just sit in some cubicle and have no one bother you, and nothing matters if you screw up.
I've never seen a game fail so hard in it's forced narrative. I was having a grand old time. But yeah, don't buy it. Despite my amusement it's not worth it.
Playing moonlighter 2 right now. Why did they get rid of price setting? Also the game stutters constantly

another demo that started with the boring part, such riveting checking-into-a-hotel action. skip the jabbering and skip right to the gameplay for the demo. next!
House of Necrosis. Mystery Dungeon game with an og RE inspired setting and art style. I put 2 hours into the demo, so it was enjoyable however, I never managed to beat the floor 4 boss, and some of the encounters, including that one, feel kind of bullshit where you easily lose through sheer statistical disadvantage. Like so many monsters swarm you that you cannot deal enough damage in time to not get gangbanged to death. I did enjoy the switching between melee and ranged. The enemies have patterns that you can (sometimes but not all times) exploit. The inventory menu is shit, I don't know why mystery dungeon inspired games have to 1:1 copy everything, including the poop menu. Switching weapons or healing require you to scroll through a list of items.

I guess the better pixel art in an indie game, the higher the chance they'll keep reusing the same sprites and maps. And that's how the game seems to work: the onsen is your base, and you go fight monsters, then go back again. An actual "J"RPG where you travel and explore with these visuals could be nice.

>>712651382Idk, would seem impossible from what I have played. I like though that enemies can be exploited to a certain extent, like zombies always take 2 turns for 1 action, so you can kite and knife them, or when an enemy has an attack they charge up, you can kite another enemy into it. But at the same time the pathing of the enemies sometimes seems quite harsh, maybe because you can't move diagonally in this game. (in my memory you can do that in other mystery dungeon games)
>>712651769>>brings up trans out of nowhereanon...
>>712652070Doesn't seem like you can move or set your aim diagonally in this game. It's common in more modern mystery dungeon games but it's not a thing in all of them. so this was good. took me a while to get to it, but probably up there as the best sim/management kind of game for the festival. Like Gold Gold Adventure Gold, except way different, you know. anyway. wishlisted.

Ninja game about killing your targets with a bunch of different tools and weapons. It has local coop but if you're solo you can just grab the other ninjas and use them as extra lives when your first ninja dies.
You can also kidnap npcs to play as them and completely cheese the game since guards won't attack you. Kidnapping is kind of annoying though because npcs wake up super quick from being knocked out.

My personal opinions about demos i played this fest (demos themselves may not be from this fest, i don't give a fuck). All of them launched and work on deck, some have control issues though.
>Mina the Hollower
High production value but needs way more polish. Hammer sucks complete ass. Probably would be decent at least
>Memories in orbit
Decent metroidvania but devs didn't play Nine Sols and don't know that you can have both an art focus and good gameplay. Combo boss patterns in a game with fixed health is just asinine. Runs like ass on deck due to 3d backgrounds
>Hark the Ghoul
Decent base gameplay but holy shit this game is atrociously butt ugly, just no
>Outrider Mako
Top-down action about mining rocks and delivering them to a bunch of assholes. Really love its artstyle and it has some interesting mechanics
>Mini star quest
Interesting attempt to make 4 niggas in a row in basically phone game format. Doesn't have controller support so problematic to play on deck, needs more testing on pc. Dynamic combat music is always welcome
>Primland the magus
Oldschool as fuck platformer. Very edgy, real early 2000s indie vibes. Whoever decided to have zero options and especially no volume option needs some rope
>Section six requiem
Never played project moon or inscryption but i believe this cardslop tries to be them. I like it personally. No gamepad support, controls just fine on deck though.
>Sani Yang's laboratory
Furfag vn, apparently was already released in gook. Nice art and you get to drag autistic (literally) cats on dates, i like it
>Metro gravity
Not from this fest, i finally got to playing it properly and got filtered, what in the fuck is that final boss and what i am supposed to do there

>>712673057I've been away the whole fest, I just came back today (it's midnight here) and I have one day to try out demos...
>>712673189Take a look at After Inc Revival, it's pretty comfy.
>>712666730Anyway, I got past the first puzzle bit, but could not get past the combat stage. It was impossible. You can take down one raptor, so long as you don't miss any shots. Taking down two is impossible. And you usually get swarmed by more than that. Sneaking by them doesn't appear to be an option. Jumping on a platform and shooting them doesn't appear to work. You can't outrun them, they are faster. Saving and reloading constantly to try get by them by respawning their locations doesn't work.
Dinosaurs have always been harder to program as enemies than zombies because they are supposed to be fast and vicious. It's honestly why I think zombies have always been so popular. They're just easy to program since you are modelling humans anyway, and not terribly difficult enemies. Dinosaurs are way different. So few games get dinosaurs right. Dino Crisis is still pretty much the gold standard for DinoAI. The dinosaurs are tough and will screw you up, but aren't unbeatable.

hm based on this thread it seems i really do have to make that thread on mio. makes me truly wonder what sort of superficial criticisms youd here about hollow knight if it had a demo in steam fest, especially considering how many retards cry that the start is too slow.
and yes, i am indeed implying that mio could be as good as hollow knight.

Be real, nigro.
>>712665738Well it's probably the best 4chan dev game for this festival. But I didn't know how putting worked and I didn't try very hard to figure it out. And there was no plot. You can just be shooting golfballs for no reason, there's got to be antagonists and damsels to save. A campaign mode in addition to a roguelike mode. Women need to be cheering me on when I golf, for some reason and the stakes need to be high at the end.
you've got a lot of work to do.

This has been truly nightmarish. I finally had time to go through the first batch of demos, recommending everything I decided to keep in my hard drive:
>Aeromachina
3d platformer metroidvania. Decent movement but poor combat. Dense demo, will give it more time if it lasts after the fest. player character looks very cool
>Ball x Pitt
I like taking brick breaking somewhere else, even though the roguelite genre sucks ass.
>Brutal John 2
Story and "humour" is terrible but I can always appreciate a duke nukem/doom clone. Love having a bunch of weapons to swap through and enemy variety
>Chrono Gear
just found out it's vtuber shit and will not longer recommend. The dash is very underwhelming but if you really needed a short 2d platformer demo to play this isn't the worst.
>Easy Delivery Co.
Uber delivery on a harsh northern mountainside. I dig the aesthetics and the car controls very well, really fun to master the speed of it. Notably decent music
>Mina the Hallower
Yacht Games game,2d zelda top down but there's a lot of jumping and verticality. The polish is there and the machanics are promising, hopefully the rest of the game delivers, mouse cunny
>Section Six Requiem
The one thing that sets this aside from the rest of the seaslop of this genre is the cards having their own HP and having to sift your hand to make sure you are protected, you hit the right combos etc. A porn game played around with this mechanic and this does the whole idea better The story and characters all feel pretty shallow and worthless but maybe there's some diamonds in the rock
>Sinker Sound
I suck at rhythm games but there's a lot more to the gameplay aside from tap to the rhythm/notes, and it's pretty novel. Frustrating to have to throw out your lure, find bait repeatedly to retry fish catching
>Super 10
Bowling meets minigolf courses. the vaporwave/retro is tasteful and the gameplay and levels is well thought out

It's like Parasite Eve but with the typical modern 3rd person camera. Combat's alright with staggering enemies and finishing them off with melee. I was really enjoying the demo. But I guess it has no soft-lock protection?
I didn't know the game actually cares about actual rules. And turned my 8ball into a baseball. Now in the preparation phase of the next game, I have no 8ball.
I can't place an 8ball in the rack because I have no 8ball. I can't even exit the screen. I'm stuck. A shame.
I'm done with the Fest. Don't feel like playing anything for at least several days now.
Standouts (high quality stuff):
> Legends of the Round Table
A very tabletop game that is also a very computer game. High production, very comfy, good amounts of whimsy, appropriately dated.
> Mystery of the Malign
An Idol-like I liked. Manages to string together the feel of a 2000s mystery game with "modern" puzzle gameplay. Feels pretty authentic and realistic (at least with handling witnesses) for what it is.
> Mage Tower Massacre
"I can't believe this is not 2005 Newgrounds!", the game. Hotline Miami home invasion score attack with spells casting bullets and lightning instead. Very simple loop that is done very competently. Lots of sounds are lifted from CS 1.6. for some reason, but I can't complain.
> Devil Spire Falls
A procgen Daggerfall-like made by a single newlywed Brazilian with a much more relaxed combat. Muskets, flails, spells, talking about religion with naked brown barbarian women wielding battleaxes to calm them down and make them teach me some survival skills. Doesn't feel like it should work at all, but it does.
> PARKSIDE: DECAYED SOUL MANIPULATION
Probably one of the closest things you can get to the feeling of Deus Ex (2000): higher-than-average tech, low life, night clubs, gang hideouts, police drones, working for techno-Illuminati for a living. Good immersive simulation. I think the devs also either made Corprus Edax or are relayed to it somehow.
> PIGFACE
Snuff Simulator 2003, great melee + ranged combat. A bit of Hotline Miami and Hitman in there as well. Isn't ambitious, but does its job perfectly.
> Demonic Mahjong
Absurdly high production for a Balatro-like. "Mahjong with extra stuff" isn't exactly new already, but the sheer amount of effort put into it is pretty fascinating. WARNING: High quality gamblecore, may lose you for an hour in the blink of an eye.
Why is Game Maker Toolkit's game actually fun?
It doesn't have the hypnotic music of Balatro nor the brainrotted visual and audio presentation. But in gameplay it's fucking fun.
I just hope the full game is actually an improvement on the demo and not somehow worse.

Pecularities (things that are not high quality, but are worth checking out if you want something weird):
> Legacy of the FallenA VN/RPG that answers questions such as "what if your mom was a party member?", "what if your mom was a divine being?" and "what if your mom watched you suck some fat priest titties?". Very fucking bad mechanically, but turns endearing once you get through.
> Touhou: Dreams of a SunflowerArmored Core 6-like/Souls-like/Sekiro-like bullet hell. Generic environments, but a lot of SOUL put into the other parts.
> The Gatekeeper of Scarlet's MansionTouhou tower defense bullet hell game mixed with complicated fairy bowling mechanics. Better try than be told.
> Distant Flux: System InitializingA text-only RPG/simulator that prides itself on the world not caring about you and going through with their own things. Takes about 20 minutes to even understand what is happening.
> The Czar is Dead 2An RPG/Shooter made by an underground Russian hip-hop artist where you go after your son as the last emperor of Russia. Reads like an ironic statement made by a clearly mentally unwell person. Captures the feeling of playing a game in a bad dream perfectly.
> City of VoicesThe Idol-like I didn't like. It's both too pixelated and unanimated enough to make looking at it a chore, which is a cardinal sin for this subgenre. Others have been fairly positive about it, though, so you may like it more.
> L8R SK8RAn Australian millenial skating platformer with millenial dialogue that doesn't get too annoying. Can be pretty fun, but also incredibly frustrating if you're not laser-precise with your controls. If you want a less stressful platformer, try Bloodthief instead. It just works most of the time.
>>712693754>>712698979>>712703936>Mahou Shojo escapeThere are two puzzles in the demo, solving any of them ends it.
First puzzle, the code, which is what I figured the solution for first was making the connection between the colors on the calendar on Mondays, looking at the phone to find the date for the correct week, then understanding that the colors refer to the flowers on the wall. IIRC the phone password was 2481 because the date on the phone showed October 25th so it was the third row/week
Second puzzle with the geometric shapes you figured out probably on your own but the solution is in webm rel. I couldn't find it alone, I only understood what the figures meant after I was told by another anon that the shapes were tied to the bookcases. Like there are 12 books within a row and there's a figure with 12 shapes displaying the number 2, so you know it's either the 2nd book from the left or right form within a specific area.

>>712690879Which porn game?
>>712665029I thought it was a legitimately beautiful game, but I enjoyed looking at it more than playing it. I thought the world-building is excellent and the way the police push the story along was really well done. I don't know if I want to play it so much as I want to see a movie of the game's story set in this world.
>>712665312I want to like it, but the fucking controls are way too loose and imprecise for this kind of game. The physics turns to shit when you're ice skating and become unpredictable so the platforming becomes impossible even though the game expects you to keep going. Even worse, the game puts enemies everywhere that wittle down your VERY limited life pool, but added an Interrupt mechanic so you can kick them out of their attack animation. Then they added a KNOCKBACK to your attacks to make it impossible to interrupt reliably. WOW! Absolute counter-synergistic game design. It's like the devs don't understand how their own game works.
The art is great, because Ubisoft has an army of talented artists. The level design is VERY nice with branching paths everywhere and interesting diverting paths. The Problem is that THERE NO FUCKING MAP. Within an hour the game became annoying with all the branching path I thought were once cool now became a labyrinth. Being able to draw on the map and having the path show up in the game world would solve this easily, but somehow no game dev thought of this yet. It's mind-boggling.
>>712706996Anon, it's 2025. We all have Hall effect controllers, some even moved to TMR. Get with the times.
>>712639797 (OP)Most games were slop, but here's the few I wishlisted:

>>7127081012) Jitter - Cool art style. Tight controls. Weird space story. Doesn't really play like anything else I've ever seen so it gets a lot of credit for being new.
>>712707809>he fell for the meme magnetsf
>>7127081013) Hardwired - It's a pseudo-hacking game that gets story elements in through file transfers and camera feeds and a lot of cool contextual stuff. I thought it was a really neat idea for a game. The gameplay really worked for me.
>>712708381Yes. I found it really fun and enjoyable to play as a casual shitter, despite the roguelite elements being really shoehorned and the pregnant nigress narator. It's especially fun in multiplayer. But if you're a hardcore arcade beat 'em up enjoyer you will be disappointed.

>>7127081014) !mrak - Ouch my bones. It's Superhot but cooked with 100% all natural slavjank. It's good but it sucks. But it's good. It's like if aliens made superhot.

It's just comfy to stay in the station alone and see the endless space
>>712710202this game pisses me off
you're building this massive space station but moving from zone to zone still takes the same amount of fuel
it should take exponentially more fuel to move as you increase the mass of the station.

>>712646214>>712650156Great potential but definitely needs work.
Very fun though, ran into a bandit whose halberd was enchanted to make people dance on hit. I only survived because it was low durability and broke before he could kill me with it.
It seems that transsexuals are some of the most creative people on the planet. Mad respect to them.

What the genuine fuck did I just play? Throughout the entire demo I had literally no idea what was going on, or what I was doing, but randomly cool stuff kept happening, then all of a sudden I locked the enemy into a special attack where lewd photos were taken of her, and then on the other hand I got hit by an attack that summoned two girls who groped my girl's tits, and idk what triggered any of those interactions, whether i was even dodging anything, or how counters work or long range or all those different things
Anyone here played it and was able to make sense of it? It was kind of fun nonethe, and the designs are coom.

I don't know if the two dialogue choices that appear basically the same having "vastly different outcomes" is better. How was I supposed to know that irrelevant bit of dialogue was hugely consequential?
If that guy on the steam forums is even the dev, he doesn't have the green username thinger. But he talks like he's the developer.

Nice panties on this corpse
Majority of games will be available after its over right, even if they're not i can just run the .exe right, i swear i did ev
any way to see which devs are retarded enough to remove their demo after the fest ends?
i still have a bunch in my backlog
>Game starts, tells you you need to parry using a limited stock of bullets
>The only way to go forward is a boss that kills in 4 hits
>If you die to him, you can't get more bullets
>You can just run out right at the start of the game because the first thing you fight is a boss with tons of hp and 4 hit kills
10/10 game design
>>712719560>t i can just run the .exe rightDepends on whether devs implemented steam drm (most do).
>>712718660Anon, you're just trying to justify spending 50 bucks on something that now costs 15, we both know that.

>>712656168Depends on the dev. Some disable them right after the fest, or some time after, or after they launch their game. Some delist the demo but let you keep it. Some keep the demo up and even update it sometimes. Some tinker with their demos and temporarily show them off on various events. And some devs keep embarrassingly outdated demos that poorly represent the final product.
>>712720090That's just typical japanese coding folded over a thousand times.
Game has potential but it lacks polish, some things that annoyed me besides performance are too long intros between days, every time you have to wait till you get DAY X typed on your screen then see animation of MC entering the turret and showing her butt, main turret having too little ammo, upgrade prices feels too random and I would prefer if you had limited enemies per day that you have to kill(like only 20 bugs are invading today) instead of timer where enemies vanish after it's end
>>712706783A friend of mine who is in a Chinese class said that almost none of the students knew who King Yama was so you're already ahead of them in some Chinese mythology by playing the game.
>>712720183Even today, Jap devs still use 90s coding standards on modern systems. Ever see any modern JP game with 30+ second load screens? Probably because the loading times are limited by the fucking frame rate.
