These physics, as great as they are, are still no the peak. But it is a huge leap forward. They closed a large portion of the gap.

When you get into the realm of cloth physics and collision physics. Then things become exponentially more expensive. You start having to perform substeps. Because 1 calculation per frame isn't enough to place all the vertices where they're supposed to be. You have to do multiple calculations per frame. Each calculation is called a substep. Since it's all happening under a frame. If all the substeps take longer than the frame to solve, then you run into performance issues. And it's *very* easy to run into performance issues with when you get into the substep bloat that cloth and collision create.

all in all things in those directions can only become better and better

You really just should not be getting hit, the game gives you all of the tools to not get hit at any point and the timing windows on dodging/blocks are pretty generous. Vindictus is mostly just knowing boss attack patterns and knowing how big your window is to DPS after each attack so you can squeeze in your biggest damage smashes as possible safely. For example, with delia the more 3rd smashes you can get off the better and it's really your main goal in combat at all times but not every attack window, especially on harder bosses, can get it off without weapon attack speed stat which defying fate doesn't have. You have to know what you can get off safely without getting hit so you can weave between dpsing and blocking/dodging smoothly and constantly.

The telegraphs seem shorter and in some cases more misleading than equivalent games like this. Like in a soulslike I can tell that a boss is ramping up for a certain attack, but with this one it seems like mhalf the time he's going for a quick shoulder barge into something else.

it runs pretty bad, especially in certain areas, and it has the same issue old vindictus had where other player characters absolutely fucking tank it in combat but it's playable. I get 60 fps on medium in solo combat against bosses usually and that's the only place it really matters for me, but there are some areas that really chug it hard for some reason like the inn in colhen and if you look at certain things. There are no actual settings, just presets.
Might run better if you have a newer CPU, mine is really aging (6700XT and r5 1600 btw

You can try. And maybe create something that looks pretty decent. However, there are a lot of unpredictable motion when the player is moving about. So if the player has full control over the character, then trying to bake the animations in can look odd, since they aren't reacting to your actual motion.

Maybe if you were making an RPG for example, and the same animations played out exactly the same way every time. With a very distinct start and end. Then sure, you can bake the jiggle in. But if your character is dynamically controlled by the player, then they boobs have to move about in real time in order to look convincing.

Redundant movesets only really became a thing when you started getting 70+ speed during s2-3. If you look at Delia now, you get a lot of use out of her LLRR but back then around before Rise all you ever did was comet-rose loop.
Same with Fiona and Amaranth, you only really stuck with BB and counters back in s1 and only used AK when you have a huge opening. Now you mostly just do double AKs back to back.

Not greatswords. You have 3 characters that have heavy weapons. Miri (right of Delia) who uses a weapon called a Dragon Spine who has henshin dragon powers. Letty (4th row 2nd column) who uses a handcarried cannon she calls Kradie. Her gimmick is ranged DPS. Lastly there's Latiya, who uses a jousting lance and magical grappling hook she calls a Kujah. Her gimmick is resource managing charges for powerful dps bursts.
Besides those three you have smaller polearm wielders. I don't know if you would classify that as "big heavy weapon" so I'm not gonna bother summarizing unless that does grab your interest.

As a Lethor main I have to say that she's very... middle of the road. She has a low barrier of entry and her damage percentiles aren't really that strong. Going up against someone like even a Karok of equivalent gear and skill the Karok will outdps you 10 out of 10 times. That said, if you're one of those die hard "I got skills to pay the bills" types of players, her middling damage output makes doing successful no hit runs even more satisfying, as you spend more time fighting the enemy than most other classes.

Adri is only enough to get into 110 raids, maybe the first 115 if you spend some gold to buy a compass and scrolls. But you need Orna to join the rest of the 115 and 120 raids. And Orna will take 6 months at a bare minimum if you run the full 115-120 hero raid circuit every day for gold income. More realistically, since you won't always have someone to just carry your deadweight ass, you'll be running the 110 hero circuit which takes about a year to gear up to orna.

I was in full Ardri doing Orna raids. I only needed to improve to Orna to get going on Uaithne, and even then with full Orna you're going to need a bunch of rank 4 enchants because rank 5s will lock you out on crit/bal requirements to QB all of 120.

It is full 15 orna, and no it didn't take a year to get to because Neamhain hasn't even been out 6 months. As for enchants, with the exception of the totem missing a prefix it's all mostly r5 enchants with like 3 r4s. Stat wise I can QB up to Spinos. Not leading any damage boards but it's enough to solidly hold 3rd place with 12% or higher damage contributed.

To be honest I never really cared how bad the end game grind was I always just had fun leveling characters. Kinda sucks that Rise ruined that a bit because all of those old nostalgic bosses like blood prince and shit may as well not even exist.
I swear to god I played through the northern ruins, hoarfrost hollow, and ainle parts of season 1 so many god damn times and there's really no way to get that feeling back anymore. And those old raids I remember grinding out dailies on every day like ingkells, keaghan, and ahglan on my main girl fiona. Season 1 was just peak for me, I never got that same feeling again with any of the stuff that came after.

It's more of the progression that I miss, it's something you can't really get back even if you can fight the boss again. The atmosphere of the colhen docks, loading up on boats with other players leveling to get through some of the harder main story fights, working through it all and unlocking every character's full kit while actually having to learn it at the same time since the bosses still made you fight for it. Last time I took a character to level cap I barely even knew how to play her even after all of those hours because you can just facesmash your keyboard until you suddenly can't anymore.
It's not really the game's fault that that is gone I'm just reminiscing a bit I guess. The game is not like that anymore sadly.

Also looking back at my old screenshots folder it's crazy how fast development was back then compared to now. Game went available in NA on October and by December we had a fuckton of armor sets to go through.
