We learned a few important things today.
1. People who call others Nazis are telegraphing the use of lethal violence and should be taken seriously as a threat. If someone cries Nazi, they're a terrorist, plain and simple.
2. There is no sufficiently moderate or radical left leaning position you can take to not be on the receiving end of lethal violence. Charlie was the most milktoast of moderate conservatives, and yet he was killed. Toning down your opinions will not protect you.
3. The left is already willing to bypass democratic processes in order to get what they want. Due to the unwillingness of people to restrain themselves to the existing political system, democracy is both functionally and socially dead. It doesn't matter if you debate, it doesn't matter if you vote, it doesn't matter if you have the majority on your side. Political power rests in those who have the will to take a life.
This should be an important lesson to the right as well. There are no rules anymore. Why not do things that are "autocratic"? There's nothing more autocratic than killing your opponents. Why not dismantle existing institutions? They are unable to function anyway, because all of their actions can be overridden by bullets. Honestly, if there was any time to shamelessly seize administrative and political infrastructure without dealing with complaints about checks and balances, it's now.
The result? Something a little bit more radical:
Pack the courts.
Ban the Democratic Party.
Deport all non-citizen progressive protestors.
Arrest high-profile journalists for improving the capacities of terrorists.
Partner with banks to identify progressive individuals and their behaviour. Do the same with social media companies. Nationalize the companies that resist.
Confiscate the property of leftists. Use it to justify a tax cut.
Ensure all members of all security forces are directly loyal to Trump or at least the new right.

In Canada our boomer neetbux (OAS and CPP) made up about 12% of our 2023 federal budget. Many of them are still quite healthy since advances in medical technology and nutrition have kept people active for longer. The end result is that someone retires at 65 and lives off the government dole until 95-100 in some cases. That's 30-35 years as a neet; the equivalent would be someone never having a job until they hit their 30s. And of course it's the working age population that has to pay for it while being berated for not conforming to their expensive lifestyle. Also, mass migration, but we don't need to get into that here.
The worst part is that we missed out on a short but vivid era of rapid social change. If we accepted a mass demographic collapse, there would be a feedback loop of no government revenue leading to collapsing infrastructure. The result would be a period of mass urbanization and crime, combined with a larger share of government funds spent on security. The boomer decline would have lead to a gangmaxxed cyberpunk moment that would have lasted 10 years at the most before the boomers died off.
We could have been fine. We just had to wait it out.
