It's very zen once you get your muscle memory down.
Your face buttons are your action buttons and you hold R2/L2 to use hotbar, and double tap R2/L2 to use hotbar#2, and slide tap R2/L2 to use hotbar #3 or you can hold R1 use a face button to go to any hotbar you want of 8 it gives us, and you tab target with L1.
I've been on console since day one and never had any issue with any content.
I will say you need to organize your bars in a way that makes sense to you because game just default the buttons on the hotbar in the order they're unlocked.
I like to keep my 1-2-3 combos mapped to Square, X and O on all jobs for example and MY AOEs on the same buttons on a different hotbar, so I would just double tap R2 for AOEs and hold R2 for single targets.

Dawntrail was simply the third strike of mediocrity, but it was the one that people had forced themselves to ignore literally every sign that the talent wasn't going to salvage any issues with the designs again. No one had to stay subbed for 6.x, most of the criticism of FFXVI was overblown and seemed like it was just console wars nonsense, but then the people who willingly ignored those signs bought into a new expac and resubbed only to find out they'd been bamboozled

Removing duels was a mistake, simplifying the area's story to be less interesting was a mistake, making the weapons quest ANOTHER Poetics grind after the Atma part was a mistake, gatekeeping gold grinds to tank access meta was a mistake, FATEs that fucking melt within ten seconds was a mistake, relegating nearly ALL of the unique items from Bozja to Bronze coffer drops was a mistake... and last but not least, the entire handling of the Forked Tower dungeon itself and it's requirements have been a mistake.

I don't know how the hell they did it, but they screwed up again with OC. All they had to do was follow Bozja's big success story from Shadowbringers.

Honestly the whole expansion was a disaster, narratively speaking. It's clear as day Hiroi never once wrote a long cohesive story, just short class quests. His characters have the same depth of a rain puddle, his pacing is terrible, he tries to elicit strong emotions in the players, but always fails at doing so. The new localization team made things even worse, since the dialogues aren't just intrinsically stupid, they've also been translated like shit. Say what you want about Ishikawa and Koji-Fox, but they at least knew how to write and carry a message across. It's no wonder the gatherer quests she worked on for DT were better received than the MQS.
