Go to the drawing tablet general on the ic board, look at the resources in the OP, and ask questions there.
The more screen space, the better. But you don't want to spend a lot of money if you're not committed to drawing a lot. Personally, I use the xp pen 22r pro and having all of that space makes things easier.

you have to be aware of everything youre looking at for how it really looks, the active and negative spaces alike (blank areas) when youre copying for training. from there on its just endless repetiton of various objects and studies and finding your own groove and style. the most important thing is to keep going. months and years dedication to get to a certain level approaching professionalism. oh, and not just the long time dedication is important, but yoru drawing for example is very simple and just a headshot, which takes obviously less time investment compared to a full body shot in a certain pose and a background. people really underestimate the time you have to be dedicated towards stuff they want to learn and give up early. as i said, dont give up just yet. even if you are old now, a few months dedication ,even if its just a little each day will get you noticeably ahead.

Try writing down your ideas into words and making loose sketches until your idea becomes concrete. Also you should create thumbnails if you're making a full illustration

The point that I'm trying to make is that art takes a long time to make no matter your skill level, and there's no need to rush it. Even pros take their time when they are making something appropriate for their skill level

Your art journey should be based on your interests and where you want to end up (e.g. if you want to learn how to make comics/manga, then focus heavy on perspective, lineart, and storyboarding). Doesn't hurt to work on the fundamental skills though.

Build up your fundamental skills while drawing for fun. Think hard about what your drawings are lacking and do research about a specific topic that will help you overcome your shortcoming. Get feedback from others as much as you can, but only after you put in some effort. Take a course if you really want some structured learning.

xp pen is cheaper than the the bigger names but just as good. Only issue I ever had was the HDMI cable it came with broke due to the way it had to make a hard turn due to my setup at the time, but that's half on me

Here's what I did to recreate the look:
>I sampled the desaturated colors right from pic related, notice that things aren't true black/white, etc.
>I emulated the anime's style (just a simple, same-thickness line)
>I used a transparent film grain overlay (just google an image of that lol), set to like 30% opacity (tinker with it) and used the Burn layer style (or Multiply/Overlay whatever looks good for what you want, again tinker with it)
>I used a Blur filter layer (use the dropdown with the add layer, add filter layer, blur, I used just 1 blur)
>To achieve a chromatic aberration effect (what kind of offsets the colors like an old VHS rip or something), i made a clone layer, set the layer style to Copy Red, and then moved that layer a bit, that emulates the effect quite well
I can elaborate further if that doesn't help enough

I had an issue where I have forgotten what brush settings I had used when starting this project and after kind of rushing through with different brush configs I have decided that I should just export it and then trace everything using paint's pencil(because I unironically like how rough it can look) whilst adding the missing details. Heavily WIP since I do it when I have free time and if I do remember it.
