For me, it's Star Control/the Ur Quan Masters

Lobotomy Corporation
The micromanagement seems like something I might enjoy, but the save point/rollback system just baffled me. I had no clue whether to push forward through the campaign, or if it's a complete waste of time and I should build up a series of perfect checkpoints.
classic Sonic
>game is about going fast
>game constantly stops your momentum to make you do slow platforming
>lots of little things that stop you that you can't see coming fast enough
>when you are able to go fast, it's just cause you memorized the level design, not as fun as a more freeform platformer

>Have to play the correct way>Usually play a mage or tanky build but shields and magic is cheating>Dislike and suck at parry stuff in vidya>Love co-op stuff but it makes the game too easy and is cheating>Dislike PvP but it's the core mechanic>Tried DS2(with my friend's save) which is considered the best in the series but still couldn't get into PvP there either even when playing against nerfed build with my friend's OP oneI kinda understand souls games but the PvP focus and the fact so many things are so broken it makes everything too easy or is borderline cheating just makes it bothersome to play. I almost got to Bell Gargoyles on my first run but I used more tanky build before realizing I was cheating with shield. I guess I accidentally ruined the game for myself and should've checked /v/ threads or ask my friend before for the right way to actually beat DS1.
>>712710463Just stay in hollow form if the pvp bothers you, or even better play offline so you don't have to see all the retarded messages, that's what I do.
StarCraft. I must have tried if 5 or 6 times. Towards the end I actually tried to do builds and keep up with timings, but it would take a tremendous amount of time to just feel comfortable playing the game. For reference, I must have spent like 1500 hours playing fighting games and feel much better while playing them compared to competitive RTS games.
>>712710545Why would I filter one of the main focuses of the game out? Like that would be playing even more wrong way to play than using 2h weapons to cheese the bosses
FFXIII. It had many issues that I put up with but the slow ass combat and the ridiculously big map was just too much. So much time wasted walking and walking and walking with painfully slow, unexciting battles in between. Honestly it could have been a fun world to explore if the game wasn't so damn fucking slow.
>>712710661Because the pvp is really not that interesting and the game is still very good if you don't interact with it at all

Playing RTS online
I love stuff like base-building or trying out different plans with what units you have at your disposal, explore all the options and variety, but these games have been optimized by the players and unless you're playing with friends and agree on some gimmicks or conditions, it's just a contest to see who is better at perfectly timing everything to only produce the optimal unit and rush the base faster.
It doesn't help that no new game ever comes out in that genre so everyone is forever playing 20+ year old games they know in and out.
>>712709642 (OP)If you focus on powering up the main ship you can just muscle through combat with rpg power
nu-Metroidvania games
I swear they're all trying to be like Cave Story with five different ending each with more cryptic paths to get there and no hints or direction, all while the core gameplay does not warrant five different playthroughs
dwarf fortress
I don't think I'm autistic enough for this
>>712710463>Have to play the correct way>Usually play a mage or tanky build but shields and magic is cheatingThe hell? Just play how you want, retard. Sword and board is quintessential DS experience.
>>712710883Nah the PvP is important. DS2 PvP especially made the whole game best in the whole genre(see Hbomberguy video about DS2). Also it has always been important for the core old fanbase of the Souls games so trying to dismiss it as "not that interesting" is honestly super dishonest. You do remember what kind of shitshow the co-op cheating mod on Elder Ring created. It wasn't developer intention to ignore PvP, it is one of the most important parts of the whole soulsborne series. It is what makes the combat so interesting and PvP in general is bigger priority than lore or atmosphere in them. I'm not sure where you get your info, if you are trolling, or just a newer fan, but my (ex)friend who imported DeS on PS3 back in the day has been fan of the series and told me often how the devs started to pander to newniggers and troons after DS2 to move away from PvP.
I usually try to respect oldfags in the communities(tho I post tranime on /v/ so I know I'm not doing myself any favors by trying to appeal to oldfags of /v/ rn) so I rather not dismiss an important part of a game and say "I beat it". Might as well be the Sekiro journalist and use cheats while insisting I experienced the intended way and beat it.

>>712709642 (OP)This was genuinely one of the worst experiences I ever had with a game. It was such a boring fucking slog with tons of things designed to annoy or turn you off at every step I had to gaslight and force myself to finish it. I have no idea how this got as much praise as it got and I was waiting for the "it gets good 20hrs in" moment that never came. I feel like I played an entirely different game from everyone else.
XBC on the Wii used to be one of my favorite games, and XBCX on Wii U was pure ludo kino, but the Switch game left such a rancid taste in my mouth it made me drop the series entirely. Didn't even bother with the remaster and XBXC3 makes me gag just looking at it.

ratatan (demo)
never played patapon. tired ratatan to see if i would enjoy the gameplay. i got filtered hard by all the things taht are happening at once. you control your character at the same time you try to control your little guys and react to what enemies are doing. and trying to keep up with the beat. it's just to much for me to handle. and the artstyle is way, WAY too busy for this kind of gameplay, it's not very clear what's happening, too much colors, shapes etc.

>>712711658 Same, man. I love reading people's insane stories like "my fortress got destroyed because a goose aggro’d a vampire cheesemaker and set off a tantrum spiral" but every time I try to play, I spend three hours figuring out how to dig a hole without flooding my fortress or getting my dwarves eaten by beavers. ASCII looks like The Matrix to me. I respect the autism, but I fear I will never ascend.

>Pretty much any fighting/action/rhythm game
I have never been a particularly dexterous guy, I can't handle memorizing and executing combos or large series of inputs. Best I can do is just get good at a few inputs, so if the game can't be beaten with button mashing/easy combos, then I can't do it.
>4x games
Particularly Civ 5 and Stellaris. I just can't figure these games out. In Stellaris I can get a good start but I inevitably resource debt death spiral until I lose, or I just don't progress fast enough. Civ 5 I just don't get how to do better, I try to go for science whenever I can and always end up behind, never have enough army, unhappy pops, etc. Total shitshow, can't beat the game on prince or whatever the default difficulty is.
>world war games
I don't really like history much and this isn't a mechanics problem for me, I just dislike the subject matter. I don't know why some people get so obsessed over playing games set in the world wars, I find them boring and repetitive. Might just be my distaste for politics. Hearts of Iron 4 comes to mind, could not get into that game at all.
>soulslike games
Medieval fantasy never grabbed me concept-wise and I don't like the combat. Roll/parry/slash isn't fun to me. Got about 20 hours into elden ring before dropping it out of boredom/frustration, haven't tried any other souls game and have no desire to.
A lot of older FPS games.
I tried the original System Shock but fuck me it feels unplayable, the controls are clunky and trying to aim is a nightmare despite basically just working on a single axis.

Second route felt super tedious when the first route was simple Platinum action I'm used to since I'm a fan of action games. My playstation at the time broke so I gave it another try a year later after getting a new one since friends still stand by it as one of their favorites. Playing it again the story started to feel more pretentious.
>"I'm Adam and this is my brother Eve">"Ever heard of the ship of theseus?">"Dude.. this robot wanted to be a singer..." Dropped it again at the end of the 2nd route. I was over it and had no interest to keep going since at that point I didn't care about anyone on screen and the gameplay felt boring. Same guy who swears by it gifted to me on steam and is trying to get me to finish it since I dont use my playstaion anymore but the thought of playing hacking minigames again fills me with dread. I might give it another shot if I got time because I really like the first part and I hear the last(?) route makes up for the second one being shit and that my story issues ""might"" be solved if I get the whole picture but I don't know man.
