What matters is how well these consoles sell during lifetime and their game releases. Right now Nintendo is doing very well with initial sales but has to prove itself with longevity. We need to see if there are enough interested Switch 1 users willing to move over to Switch 2 over the next few years and that their upcoming titles are actually good. Considering most consumers nowadays are used to purchasing new phones and/or upgrading, they will likely and eventually move over in the next few years. As for games, right now it's looking rough on that department, I think if they can release more titles then perhaps it'll encourage the rest of the previous owners to switch over (no pun intended).

Most of Switch Sales are because of its Nintendo exclusives not because the system is portable.
A Nitnedo console would have sold many units because of Mario cart regardless if it was portable or not.

They are accessories never meant to replace your main rig but complement it if you commute to work on trains, spend breaks away from home, etc and you still want to make some progress on your pc games.
