Nothing about SH1 could work in a modern AAA title, and that is purposeful. Most of the shit that would HAVE to be changed in a remake is stuff Toyama does in all of his games:
>Weird character speech (the actors were literally told to do several second pauses between lines when recording for SH1, it was completely intentional)>Constant weird camera angles (SH1 is really the only game that had very involved usage of them)>Purposefully obscured storyline that requires multiple playthroughs to uncover (even including a major file that's just hidden behind vague requirements)>the best ending is hidden behind obscure requirements>Several plotlines just end abruptly with little warning (Lisa, Kaufmann, the whole Kaufmann side quest in general, every ending of the game)All of that would be changed- and even ignoring that, the game is relatively brisk, that'd need to be changed to.
It is quite possibly, the WORST SH game you could EVER choose to remake because all of Toyama's games are so aggressively against modern AAA conventions. Were Silent Hill not released on the PSX during the height of RE, occupying a popular genre space as the only distinctly different competitor, it would've flopped like all of Toyama's other games. Siren, Gravity Rush, Slitterhead, they're all just like SH1. That's probably why the Shattered Memories devs just up and abandoned the idea of remaking SH1, it's a game you can't remake.
