If we assume that the universe as hella old of course there might be more dead worlds out there than alive after a certain amount of time that doesn't mean the whole universe is depressed. The bird became depressed because at the time she couldn't find anyone to answer the question no different from a child who doesn't understand how things are. Then when she did start finding life her depression was affecting the people she met killing them off. To add to this the universe of XIV life is reborn after a certain amount of time and part of the song of oblivion was not only destroying anything that was still alive but preventing them from being reborn as well as accelerating the heat death of the universe. Thats why at the end Meteion says she will sing a new song to make up for all that they destroyed and so that life can return to the universe again.

That's what I'm talking about, dumbass. That the universe is predisposed towards death. Death is natural, death is fundamental, death is expected. Death is so ubiquitous that it was the majority status before Meteion landed on a single planet.
Meteion killed some of the universe, yes. But the majority of the place was empty and destroyed. Midgardsormr gave credence to this, too; the Dragonstar was destroyed before the Endsinger began her song (she had never even seen the Dragonstar at its height), and he found NO WORLDS AT ALL capable of safe landing in his journey across the universe.
Admittedly, she had started singing by the time he found Etheirys, considering he had to bargain with Hydaelyn to be allowed on Etheirys at all, so we must assume some overlap. But in his initial flight, there was no safe haven, anywhere in the universe, and Etheirys was his last hope.

She visited countless, the Dragonstar was one of the first she found but that is insignificant. There were no happy worlds. There were a scarce handful of placid worlds, that her presence tipped into further desolation, but most worlds were just plain empty, graveyard upon graveyard.

Now you're the one making up timeframes. She found the Omicrons first, they're Ostrakon Deka-Hexi. The Omicrons had long since won, come to their despair, and shut down. Then she found the Dragonstar, a decaying ruin with a few handfuls of dragons dying on a poisoned land. This, clearly, was a great deal of time after Midgardsormr had left, considering he left in the middle of the war. At the very least, it undeniably occurs last in a sequence of Midgardsormr's retreat, the Omicron's final victory, the Omicron's coming to terms and shutdown, and then Meteion's discovery of the Omicrons and the Dragonstar. If you think that all happened in a week, you're fucking retarded.
And even then, she STILL didn't start singing until that was all catalogued and brought back to Hermes.

The Final Days also destroyed the Mandervillian empire centuries ago, and the being who later assumed the identity of Godbrand Manderville was the only known survivor. Says something when every live alien we meet and some of the dead ones is a refugee and a survivor of whatever the Song of Oblivion did to their homeworld.
