Sony fully funded and worked on the game, via XDEV Japan. Stellar Blade was only supposed to be a 1 hour game released on all platforms however Sony decided to fund the game and make it a timed exclusive. Remember, this was all before Shift Up made Nikke so they really didn't have as much funds as they do now. Shift Up also became a signed second party studio in 2023 for Sony, their AA and AAA console games will more than likely be timed exclusives however their gacha games will still be multi-plat day 1 because fucking obviously.

Stellar Blade is unironically I daresay a "fun" game. It would not get so many positive reviews and players if the game was a boring low quality slog. There are plenty of things working in tandem that contributed to its success. Mainly the lewd protagonist is what people to buy tickets and the rest of the game's offerings is what kept them in.
