This is why you need second and third opinions and some basic craft knowledge of your own. Both mechanics and dentists, and plenty of other professionals, have tried to sell me thousands of dollars of shit I don't need. I went to 8 different dentists trying to find an honest one. I was told I had diseases and cavities that I don't have. Several tried to convince me to pay thousands to remove perfectly healthy wisdom teeth.
Mechanics quote unnecessary and overpriced repairs to fix problems that don't exist, and they miss or don't report other problems they don't feel like fixing. Last month I went to buy a truck from a mechanic with my brother. The shop had wrapped a broken frame rail with tape then undercoated it to hide that it was falling apart and unsafe to drive. Brother would have bought it if I didn't crawl under the truck and squeeze the frame rail.
As an honest professional with a good reputation in a field full of scammers, you really should not trust someone just because they have a job. There are people out there who will endanger your life and charge you for it.
