I personally think, in a vacuum, GKCs are an upgrade over "code in a box".
Not like a strict upgrade mind you, I get that there is some inconvenience involved with managing the physical card, having to swap it, risk of loss or damage.
But to me that is offset by the ability to sell the game off or loan it to a friend, and the collectors aspects of having the box and card, even if the card might be worthless in the future.
But people with different priorities might disagree and we could argue pointlessly about which preference is better.
The problem with GKCs is they are NOT replacing "code in a box". They are replacing ACTUAL physical games.
I think a number of those 22 GKC games shown in OP would have gotten "code in a box", or no physical release at all if GKCs didn't exist.
But I think a good number of them would have gotten properly physical releases.
Maybe even over half of them.

I think GKCs was Nintendo being STUPID, but not evil in this case. I think they legitimately were trying to make the experience of buying a digital only game at the store a bit better and make it work more like a physical game. I just don't think they thought it through and realize that other publishers would leap on this in PLACE of physical. Maybe the team that came up with GKCs had no clue that the other carts would be so expensive to make, or maybe they didn't think it through, but Nintendo themselves seems to actually still want to make real physical games (for now), and really only meant this for third parties that would otherwise have just given you a code.

Nintendo isn't killing physical media but it sure is not helping it. Game sizes keep increasing. For example: 75GB for Stellar Blade. That shit isn't fitting on nintendos cartridge. So they will eventually force their fans to download partial games regardless. Nintendo can fix the smaller games with cartridges between 8 and 64GB. Not sure about the bigger ones.
