You're not wrong, plus having to redo the first stage every time you die which was the biggest annoyance for me because it really throws off the groove. But it still took me maybe about 3-4 total hours to beat him learning the timing of the parries, which is honestly not that bad. And I don't consider myself to be a oro or anything either.

Shield steal isn't an issue if you don't use Shield. Combine the Clea's Life Lumina with Cheater and the 1 HP thing isn't a problem either. For the Gommage, my personal strategy was having Monoco as one of my backup team members to use his Gradient to break him immediately, since at that point he's low enough on health that you should be able to just rush him down on damage. This still requires being able to parry at least 2 of his attacks though in the third stage, which is the most difficult. If you get lucky and they're the attacks from the first stage with his shadow triple, it's pretty much a win if you can beat the Danage check.

Don't be afraid to use your recoats to adjust your stats towards whatever weapon you want to currently use. You'll find plenty of recoats, you can buy them off shops and some enemies even have them as drops if you needed to grind them for some reason. Just experiment with what your play style is. Later on in the game around the end of act 2 and start of act 3 is when you can worry about the specific "best" weapon for each character since you can't get them all until esquie is able to fly and dive

Lune for Rebirth alone. I used Gustave and Verso for 99% of the damage, with all points put into attack power and speed.

Lune just to revive the other two when they die, with all her points put into vitality and defense so she stays alive - Verso loses his combo bonus when he gets hit so he may as well just die and get revived at that point, health becomes redundant.

And Maelle just to apply buffs (shield + powerful + speed).

As much as I like the game, and as much as I feel like the length that it is feels right, I wish there was some more meat on the bone. If we weren't going to get Gustave back in Act 3, there really should have been another party member somewhere to have 3-3 party composition. In addition, they really should have balanced the game to be more difficult. I had some struggle points in my first playthrough on Normal, but I started a fresh one on Hard and I'm still just breezing through outside of having to try certain bosses a couple of extra times. Reminds me a lot of how I felt about Nier Automata once I levelled past a tipping point and ended up with far too little of a challenge.

Agreed on all points. The length of the main story was just about right, and I loved everything the game offered, I just wish there was slightly more of it. Act III needed to be longer, maybe a dungeon or two before the final dungeon. Act II had three significant dungeons, Act III was one linear cinematic mini-dungeon you complete in a single sitting with nothing to explore. I don't know much about game dev or this game specifically, but every image I've seen of it feels overworked, overcooked. If I had to guess why it's an Unreal phenomenon, it may be because a goal of that engine is to push graphical and technical boundaries, and so more effects for their own sake are emphasized. But just because you have a fancy new toy, that doesn't mean you should automatically use it. I honestly think by narrowing the range of values and effects, by showing less, more a "mood" would be obtained, rather than bedazzle-sloppa it currently is.
