100+ customisable armours and outfits is inferior to having a single, quality default outfit and no character customisation. It’s literally a quantity vs quality issue and every time your average gaymer chooses quantity.

Just let players transmog whatever armor they want, there is zero reason ever not to give players that option

Armors being mostly nothing but "fashion" is what killed it IMO. You can wear the biggest, heaviest, thickest fucking armor in the game and you still take 850 damage instead of 900. It's utterly fucking pointless to wear shit outside of "fashion" because from protection standpoint it does fuck all. Utterly fucking gay.

Then the designers failed at their job. Plus like 2 or 3, well thought out alternate outfits is still acceptable. The point is, having a million poorly designed and poorly modelled outfits for the sake of having ‘options’ and lots of customisation is awful.

Right... but what you don't understand is that people who make video games want as many people playing as possible, if only for the money.
Baldur's Gate 3 is extremely popular because not only does it have dress up, but you can pick your character. That means people (that aren't you) like customisation. If everyone else wants something, the devs don't care what you want. You clearly haven't lived long enough to find out that you don't matter, but you will eventually understand.

I like visual character progression that comes from different armour sets.
For pure cosmetics I mostly agree. Once in a lifetime you do get a character creator that's genuinely fun to get a good look in - Code Vein, Nioh 2 - but mostly who cares.
