I think 7 is the best game.

You know forcing intermission tracks as hard as World does, was a terrible idea when people online ALREADY frequently choose Random just because they figured out that it's the only way to guarantee a regular 3-lap race on the actual goddamn track. And this was supposed to be the defining features of World too (well part of it, being derived from Free Roam). It's funny how people already want to excise the very part of the game Nintendo uses to justify an $80 pricetag.

yeah driving to each track is kind of buns, the drives there aren't really good enough to justify structuring the whole game around and the open world stuff seems kind of bland. But, Mario Kart DS came out in 2005 and was a mainstay release for the years and years after. It was THE Mario Kart for zoomers that were kids and early teens for that stretch of the mid-to-late aughts, especially since the cheaper price of the DS and the existence of DS Download Play meant that balloon battles full of Shy Guys was a staple of bus rides home, and meant a lot more people were playing it daily than the sales numbers would suggest.

This is compounded by how the 3DS really missed the mark, so MKDS had a bit of extra staying power as a lot of kids borrowed their older siblings' DS instead, and it means that MK7 wasn't able to get onto a lot of zoomers' radars, let alone supplant MKDS in nostalgia

Double Dash's handling is unique because it accounts for weight distribution. Your turns and drifts are actually being affected by the weight class and positioning of your drivers. It's really neat.
They also gave the karts some bouncy suspension, so the terrain's angle can affect that too. It's unironically the deepest driving physics in the series.
