The writing for Borderlands has never been great, there was a certain kind of appeal in BL2 but the writing is BL3 is so unbearably bad that one of the only mods ever made for the game is one that deletes all conversations and skips them automatically. That's just one aspect too, there's also the dogshit characters, the ridiculous 10+ minute cutscenes, the fact that almost every cutscene in the game deletes the vault hunters from existence while it plays out (as in the plot acts as if the vault hunters don't exist and didn't do anything, and you also don't appear or have a PoV there)

Borderlands is such a sore spot for me.

BL1 was very very good. Great gameplay, music, atmosphere. Undercooked story but who the fuck cares.

Borderlands as a series got better and better gameplay wise but the tone of the game shifted from a relatively grounded edgy dark humour to millenial 9GAG faggot central. BL3 is a great game but the writing is so unbeliveably god awful. I genuinely have no idea how its so bad because the rest of the game is mostly very competent.
