Isn't the actual code used for WoW private servers just an open-source attempt at reverse engineering the original game (i.e. Blizzard does not own it)? Having access to all the wow source code and all of its assets means they can basically build whatever they want with the tool set.
The real problem is Turtle WoW used the vanilla client which really limited them and is forcing them to port it over to unreal engine 5 to be able to have more control in what they can and cant do.
Epoch is using the wrath client which means the clients less janky and more powerful but also they have access to everything from vanilla to wrath asset wise to build all sorts of cool shit like you can see in the WC and DM redesigns.
Also, using the source code to wow to just scrub everything out of it from skills, classes to all the assets is completely retarded.

Pservers also run all on the last patch usually so it takes out any ambigiouuity on what versions you need, also if the version is popular enough people make modern addons or fix old addons.

CoD was the beginning of the end for gaming. Gooberment realized how effectively it could be used for recruitment and immediately made the power move to grab it. Blizzard was acquired due to WoW's mass popularity allowing for easier demographic control.

But i do think the best part of Epoch by far is the first 20-30 levels, which is quite similar to actual Vanilla. The rest of the dungeons do not get a new WMO like DM/WC, so the polished experience is frontloaded.

Turtle is more consistently all over the place, with janky looking areas like tristfal uplands at 15-20 but then you got good shit like Gilnaes at 40 (still a bit of a bumpy map but not bad for 1.12)

Hyjal was a great addition, not gonna lie. Actual tangible upgrades at max level and some varying upgrade paths outside of raiding. New currencies for these upgrades, new enchants, that's the kind of content worth something. Even Tel'Abim was good, with the new cooking recipes, minor upgrade paths, and new places to put new quest objectives. Actual substance, unlike Lapidis and whatever the other one is, those are such garbage I never go to them during any questing route. Nothing there except the most dense mob density I've ever seen in any zone. You can tell it was their first attempt and never went back to balance it.

I didn't, I joined the party after he did. And it is what's being discussed. The game expects you to have a certain level of gear regardless of your role or you just won't contribute. You also need to have training and your weapon skills at acceptable levels. I do the dungeons once for the quests really.
I don't have anything like an optimal route but i usually just go around Wetlands, Duskwood, Swamp of Sorrows, Artahi, Dustwallow, Thousand Needles etc, they all have new quests and green quests give full exp. Obviously tent spam and maybe war mode on helps if you wanna do that.
New areas like Hawks Vigil and Sorrowguard Keep etc are good little quest hubs. You might only need to do STV if you have slow and steady or cbf hopping continents every now and then.
