For all the talk about studios closing and losing money and whatever the fuck it seems like no one ever brings up the absolute race to the bottom most publishers seem to do when pricing their older games. Nintendo has a reputation of never dropping prices, but that's exactly why people are willing to pay $60, $70, or $80 for their games. I see all sorts of fairly recent AAA games with huge development staff on sale for dirt cheap in digital marketplaces all the time. I have more games than I could ever possibly play. When something like Persona or The Witcher or whatever goes on sale for $9.99 or whatever the price is less an issue to me than finding the time to play it to begin with, and I'm hesitant to buy new games in the series for full price when I know there are two or three recent entries or similar games that are already in the bargain bin.
And frankly, I feel like most people complaining about game prices must not have any other hobbies because EVERYTHING else I do is far more expensive. Want to go to a live music show at somewhere larger than a dive bar? You're gonna be out $70 after tickets, parking, and a drink or two. Do you read comics? I bought an omnibus two weeks ago for $60 that I've already finished reading. I know a few people who are into Warhammer and you don't even WANT to know how much those little guys cost (along with the paints and shit you need to actually put them together).
